After a two month break, TOMO Racing prepares to hit Canadian Tire Motorsports Park at full speed for Rounds 3 & 4 of the Pirelli World Challenge Championships.

Two full months feels like an entire additional off season since Rounds 1 & 2 at Circuit of the Americas in March, but Tom O’Gorman is looking forward to hitting the ground running at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park for Pirelli World Challenge TC/TCA/TCB Rounds 3 & 4 next week. O’Gorman and the Black Armor Helmets #94 team are aiming to build on momentum from a strong double-podium weekend in Texas with the help from some new faces on the crew.

“I was able to enter my first Pirelli World Challenge races last year with the help of a crowdfunding campaign, where we raised $8000 to get started – the response from my network of friends and family was overwhelming, really. This year, I’m ‘crowdsourcing’ my crew for each race, in a way, ” O’Gorman says. “I’ve had amazing continued support from the racing community, and my family and friends, and it’s taking our effort to a new level this year. At COTA, we were lucky enough to have all-around motorsports guru Andy Hollis join the team, and will be having him back at future races.”

“I’m excited to have Renee Hines and Blake Meredith joining the team for CTMP,” he continued. “Renee is a very experienced road racer and autocrosser, and one of my closest friends – she’s bringing a level of experience and organization that we’ve lacked as a newer team as she steps into the Crew Chief role. She recruited Blake Meredith, another long time road racer and car builder, as our Lead Mechanic for CTMP. These two add immeasurable value to the team, I’m honored to have them on board, in addition to the most staple of the crew; my parents!”

O’Gorman has been busy at work since Circuit of the Americas, launching the 2016 season for SCCA Track Night In America. As the KONI Novice Experience Lead Coach, O’Gorman helps deliver the SCCA’s newest experiential driving program at race tracks across the country. “Track Night is about giving driving enthusiasts the outlet to enjoy their cars and experience performance driving in a low pressure, non-competitive environment. The energy after a session amongst a group of people who have just fallen in love with performance driving, with their cars, in a whole new way – there’s nothing like it. It’s more electric than the paddock of a race,” tells O’Gorman. “I’m proud to represent TNIA in World Challenge. I race for the same reason these drivers show up to TNIA events; to have fun with cars.” SCCA Track Night In America Driven by Tire Rack has already hosted nearly 1000 participants in 2016, and will team up with Pirelli World Challenge to debut SCCA TrackPass at Lime Rock Park, Thursday May 26. Drivers will get a chance to drive Lime Rock Park during the Pirelli World Challenge race weekend, walk the track with pro drivers, get exclusive paddock access, and a front row seat for the PWC and Formula 4 races.

Another unique story will unfold throughout 2016 as O’Gorman teams up with veteran racer David Daughtery to campaign a 2015 Honda Fit in Pirelli World Challenge with O’Gorman behind the wheel, and in SCCA Majors competition with Daughtery piloting the new vehicle. The team has decided to qualify the 2015 Fit for the SCCA National Championship Runoffs, to be held at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in September, before debuting the car in Pirelli World Challenge competition.

“Our goal for the weekend is to bring home two more strong finishes to build on the momentum we have from COTA. We’re in this season for a championship, and championships come with consistency.” O’Gorman currently sits 2nd in the Drivers Championship points standings following a pair of 2nd place finishes in Rounds 1 & 2. He will take to the track alongside his Black Armor Helmets teammate James Wilson (#55 TCB, Mazda2). The team currently holds down 2nd place in the Team Championship standings.

“Ultimately, I just can’t wait to get back behind the wheel. Two months is enough to make the off-season twitches come back, so it’s time to get back on the road and keep pushing towards a championship.” Watch for O’Gorman and the SCCA Track Night In America, Black Armor Helmets, Carbotech Brakes, The Tire Rack, Winding Road Racing, Honda Racing/HPD #94 TCB Honda Fit from at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park May 19-22, and follow Tom’s adventures online at, Facebook, and Instagram (@tomoracing).
