Fast Track Racing stars, Toby Grahovec and newcomer, Matt Travis feasted on the field at COTA during the Pirelli World Challenge TC races this past weekend, scoring 4th and 5th place finishes in race one of the weekend and then landing both drivers on the podium with 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the final PWC race of the weekend. The Texas based team, sponsored by Plano, Texas’ Classic BMW, brought a large fan base who cheered their drivers to the best results of the 2017 season.
The surprise of the weekend may have been the impressive performance from Matt Travis, who put his BMW M235iRacing into the second spot on the grid for both the Saturday and Sunday races. He proved to be very consistent all weekend and promises to have more podium finishes in the coming events. Defending champion Toby Grahovec continued his late season climb as he has managed to score high points in the last several race weekends. Toby drove an amazing race on Sunday and very nearly pulled off the pass of the race on the final lap, but fell just a half second short to eventual race winner Nick Wittmer in the Samantha Tan Racing BMW M235iracing.
Fast Track Racing also saw a blazing start from Gino Carini in race one that saw Gino eclipse 8 cars on the first lap and receive the best start of the race award. The fourth member of the Fast Track Racing crew, Chris Ohmacht, suffered through a first lap collision only to find his groove and move up through the field to finish in 15th position in race one. Ohmacht drove a brilliant race in the Sunday finale as he battled his way into 9th position and managed to hold on to a 11th place finish.
The missing member of the Fast Track Racing Team, Justin Raphael, may have had the most important weekend of all as he and his company, Raphael and Associates, had to answer the call and help the people of Houston and the surrounding coastal areas in their time of need. For all of us that enjoyed the weekend, Justin and his company, which manages claims for insurance companies, took action and helped those in need after hurricane Harvey. A special thanks goes out to the fantastic barbecue from Black’s Barbecue in Lockhart, Texas. It’s the secret ingredient to a great racing weekend!
