PLANO, Tex. – Fast Track Racing/Classic BMW team recorded another successful road racing campaign in 2018 with the prestigious BMW Sports Trophy, a series championship, numerous race wins and bucket load of podium finishes with the superbly-prepared stable of BMW racing machines.

The continued achievements of BMW M235iR sedans and the debut of the BMW M4 GT4 sports cars from Fast Track Racing highlighted the Pirelli World Challenge performances this year.

In the annual BMW Sports Trophy presentation last weekend for world standings, Classic BMW became the first American-based team to win the esteemed team championship in 2018, halting the four-year domination of the Pixum Team Adrenalin Motorsport organization. The combination of Fast Track Racing’s outstanding showings with the BMW M235iR (Touring Car) and BMW M4 GT4 (GTS) led to the team’s honor in Munich. Placing second in the BMW Sports Trophy competition was 3Y Technology followed by Securtal Sorg Rennsport.

“After receiving the 2018 PWC TC Team trophy on Wednesday, we were crowned BMW Motorsports 2018 Sports Trophy Team of the Year!!!,” said Toby Grahovec, Fast Track Racing/Classic BMW team manager and team driver. “Huge thanks to BMW Motorsports for building incredible racecars that allow us to compete week in and week out. Thanks to our sponsors – Classic BMW, Body Machine Fitness, EG Steak, Oakley, and SparcoUSA. Thanks to every crew member who has helped out throughout the year!!! It took an army at times and we all worked hard together to accomplish everything. The blood, sweat and tears make victory and these accomplishments that much sweeter!!! We look forward to building on our accomplishments and pushing for more in 2019!!!

“Also, we want to thank the crew’s families for putting up with the late nights at the shop and being on road most of the year. We could not do it without the support from our families.”

And the squad’s impressive runs in 2018 North America road racing competition was not overlooked by the BMW Motorsports brass in Germany this past weekend with drivers Karl Wittmer, Grahovec and Matt Travis receiving special awards at the annual BMW Sports Awards.

Fast Track Racing scored another PWC Touring Car Team Championship with Wittmer, Travis and Jayson Clunie driving their BMW M235iR machines to second, fourth and seventh respectively in the 12-race TC division. Wittmer, in the No. 91 Classic BMW BMW M235iR, recorded two wins (Lime Rock Park and Watkins Glen Internationals) as well as seven podium finishes. The Montreal, Que., Canada driver just missed the TC title by four points. Daren Jorgensen and C.J. Lett also scored TC points for Fast Track Racing in 2018.

In addition, BMW Motorsports captured the PWC TC Manufacturers’ championship in 2018.

In the PWC GTS division, the team of Grahovec and Chris Ohmacht scored two GTSA SprintX class victories this year with the No. 92 ETF Global/CAO/Classic BMW BMW M4 GT4 taking the checkered flags at VIRginia International Raceway and Utah Motorsports Campus. The Grahovec/Ohmacht tandem placed third in the final GTSA SprintX points. Grahovec also scored a second place in the streets of St. Petersburg in the GTSA division with his No. 26 Classic BMW BMW M4 GT4.

Recording a GTS Pro-Am podium this year for Fast Track Racing was the No. 17 Raphael & Associates/Classic BMW BMW M4 GT4 entry of Justin Raphael and Stevan McAleer at the controls in an impressive second place against a superb field at Circuit of the Americas (COTA).

Rounding out the Fast Track Racing/Classic BMW top performances was the five-driver team of Vess, Hart, Travis, Andrew Davis and Curt Swearingin combined for the GT4 Class victory at the COTA in the 2018 Hankook 24HSeries Championship of the Continents sports car classic in November.

Another highlight for the Fast Track Racing/Classic BMW team was longtime team member Yuki Tsutsumi being honored for the prestigious Pirelli World Challenge Jerome Zimmermann Cup, named for the late RealTime Racing crew chief and awarded to annually to the crew member who exemplifies the passion, dedication and success which Zimmerman displayed in World Challenge competition.

Earlier this year, Tsutsumi wanted to give one of his best friends the greatest gift possible – the gift of life. Yuki knew his close friend, Stephen Mensch, was suffering from PSC (primary sclerosing cholangitis), a long-term liver disease that would be fatal without a liver transplant.

Tsutsumi donated some 70 per cent of his liver to Mensch and both are doing well after the nine-hour surgery for Yuki and the ten-hour transplant for Mensch.

The Fast Track Racing/Classic BMW team now prepares its BMW M4 GT4 and BMW M240iR sports cars this winter for its 2019 racing tour in the Pirelli GT4 America and TC America.
