Team comes off of multiple day test, looks for two-car success at home venue Watkins Glen International
Watkins Glen, N.Y. – BERG Racing returns to Pirelli World Challenge competition at Watkins Glen for the Grand Prix of Watkins Glen, Aug. 31 – Sept. 2, 2018. The Nos. 51 and 50 REDCOM Mazda MX-5’s will be entered for team driver/owner John Weisberg and wife Dinah Weisberg, of Webster, N.Y., respectively.
Coming off of a multi-day test at the circuit, John Weisberg is anticipating an exciting weekend in New York’s Finger Lakes region.
“We’re excited to be back for pro racing at Watkins Glen,” said Weisberg. “We always relish the opportunity to race in front of our home fans and clients, and this weekend is no different.”
“We chased a few issues last weekend that hampered our test plans,” added Weisberg. “We spent quite a bit of time this week getting the cars up and running. I think we’ve got solid race cars, it’s just a shame we couldn’t have done more work in testing!”
A quick Friday morning practice proved redeeming for the team.
“I finished FP1 in second, which is a nice shot in the arm after the past week. My wife Dinah had a small off, but our REDCOM crew did a great job to get her back out for FP2 later in the afternoon. Unfortunately, we lost a driveshaft on my car in FP2, but that’s easily repairable for qualifying and race one tomorrow.”
Dinah Weisberg, President and CEO of BERG Racing title partner REDCOM Laboratories, Inc., is eagerly awaiting to go Pirelli World Challenge racing at her home track.
“This is my first time back to a Pirelli World Challenge race in two years,” said Weisberg. “To say I’ve been a bit busy since taking over the helm at REDCOM is an understatement. However, this is my home track, and we intend to make the most of the exposure. I’m excited to be participating this weekend, and look forward to the competition.”
Dinah Weisberg’s No. 50 Mazda will be carrying Go Red For Women signage, a campaign to raise awareness for heart disease in women.
“I’m delighted to help Go Red for Women gain exposure through a Pirelli World Challenge weekend,” added Weisberg. “Giving a cause that I care about coverage at a professional event, and at such a premier venue like Watkins Glen, is definitely a privilege.”
REDCOM will also have a heightened trackside presence to compliment the two REDCOM adorned Mazdas.
“We have trackside signage featured in the uphill esses at Watkins Glen,” said Weisberg. “We look forward to the opportunity to grow the REDCOM brand with local fans and customers!”
