Webster, New York – After a challenging weekend at Utah Motorsports Campus, BERG Racing looks to move on to Touring Car rounds 9 and 10 of the 2017 Pirelli World Challenge Championships at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

After retiring the #5 REDCOM Laboratories MX-5 after Thursday’s promoter test day in Utah, BERG Racing focused all efforts on the #009 Micro Precision Components Audi RS 3 LMS USA Clubsport, driven by JT Coupal.

“We came back to Utah with an air of optimism, following our TC-class win last year,” said John Weisberg, BERG Racing team owner. “Unfortunately, we had to cut our weekend short on the #5 MX-5 program, as we discovered a technical issue in the engine. We had spare components on site, but elected to retire the car to focus on its repair for Circuit of the Americas, and on our #009 Audi RS 3 LMS program.”

For a track he had never driven, BERG Racing team driver JT Coupal made quick progress of the high-altitude desert circuit.

“We had a productive first test session on Thursday in Utah,” said 16-year-old JT Coupal, of Rochester, New York. “We made some adjustments to the car to dial it in and to make it comfortable, then we fine-tuned based on what I wanted after running a decent number of laps on the circuit. Unfortunately in Race I, I was taken out in the first corner, with significant damage to the car. The BERG Racing crew did a great job repairing the car in time for Race II later that same day, and the Micro Precision Components Audi RS 3 LMS made it home, nearly in the top-ten.” Particularly impressive is that JT brought the car up 20 positions during that grueling race, while nursing an overheating problem towards the final ten minutes.

Putting Utah behind, Coupal heads to another new track, this time in the heart of Hurricane-ravaged Texas.

“Obviously, the victims of Hurricane Harvey are at the top of our minds as we arrive at Circuit of the Americas. It’s tragic what happened, and it’s nice to see Pirelli World Challenge promoting Red Cross donations and charitable endeavors like they are. Obviously, quite a few teams and owners are from Texas, so it’s good to see the support and kind gestures – something we all share in at BERG Racing and Micro Precision Components.”

“As far as the race in Texas,” added Coupal, “I’m excited to compete at a circuit that has hosted multiple Formula 1 Grands Prix, and to experience what a modern and state-of-the-art facility the track is. I’m looking forward to seeing how the #009 MPC Audi handles this amazing circuit!”

Team owner John Weisberg is equally excited to start fresh in Texas.

“We’re eager to recover from the difficult weekend we had at Utah Motorsports Campus,” said Weisberg. “We’ve repaired the #5 REDCOM MX-5, and are excited to once again race on such a premier circuit. Obviously, we race with heavy hearts this weekend, as we’re all thinking about the victims of Hurricane Harvey, and encourage fans to contribute to the American Red Cross in cooperation with Pirelli World Challenge.”

Dinah Weisberg, President of BERG Racing title partner REDCOM Laboratories, shares a similar sentiment with those impacted by Harvey.

“Our hearts go to those affected by the storm,” said Dinah Weisberg. “We urge fans to consider donating to the American Red Cross to support their relief efforts (https://www.redcross.org/donate/hurricane-harvey). We’re also a proud supporter of the Lone Star Dog Ranch (https://lonestardogranch.com) in Texas, which is expanding special efforts to rescue and provide care for pets affected by Harvey.”

“REDCOM Laboratories, Inc. is offering free 24/7 phone support to our customers in Texas and Louisiana impacted by the hurricane, as they seek to restore communications to the area,” added Dinah Weisberg.

Pirelli World Challenge Touring Car rounds 9 and 10 can be streamed live. Race I begins Saturday, September 2nd at 11:10a EST, while Race II begins Sunday, September 3rd at 3:35p EST. Follow along at www.world-challenge.com/streamvideo.
