Birmingham, AL (April 24, 2015) … TRG-Aston Martin Racing and Team Driver Kris Wilson have secured their second win of the 2015 Pirelli World Challenge season of competition with a dominant victory in the first GTS race of the weekend at Barber Motorsports Park. Securing the second win of the season for the team was no small feat, with Wilson also earning the coveted Move of the Race award for his impressive driving behind the wheel of his No. 07 Royal Purple/ORION/LaSalle Solutions/PassTime USA Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4.
After qualifying in P4 earlier today, Wilson started quickly and moved up a spot before settling into his race pace. The top four starting positions consisting of the Aston Martin, the Porsche, and the pair of Kia racing machines all fought a great battle early on, running nose to tail and changing positions several times before Wilson was able to make his move. He eventually slipped into P2 past longtime series competitor Jack Baldwin and his typically dominant Cayman. It was only a matter of time before Wilson would overtake Ben Clucas for P1, as the gap was sliced down considerably every single lap that went by. After moving into P1 Wilson showed his typical clean, quick driving style by bringing the gap to over 15 seconds between himself and P2 while the cars behind him were battling it out. After that it was smooth sailing with Wilson taking the victory on the trot.
Wilson took the checkered flag in place of longtime teammate and co-driver Max Riddle, who was out of the driver’s seat this weekend while recovering from illness. Riddle is scheduled to be back at the next event.
Kris Wilson, TRG-AMR Team Driver: “I got under the leader in the hairpin to finally make my pass and after that I kept my eyes behind me and saw that Ben and Jack were battling it out and Mark was coming on. It was just a matter of taking care of the Pirelli P-Zero tires after I got in the lead. We did a long run this morning in the V8 Vantage GT4 to simulate race conditions and the times we were running this morning were pretty true to what we ran in the race this afternoon, so that really helped – great strategy by Kevin and the team. Great win for TRG and Aston Martin Racing!”
Kevin Buckler, TRG-AMR CEO: “Great run by Kris and the entire team today. Strong planning and even better execution. We knew our car was good on long runs so we planned for a strong back half of the race and it totally came to us with all of our competitors fighting for position, costing time and giving Kris a clean track. It was perfect! The Aston Martin GT4 ran flawlessly and we are standing strong in the points. Also, all of us are really looking forward to having Max back in the car at the next round in Canada. Max is fast, on his “A” game, and we’ll be ready for him. The Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4 is proving to be the car to have right now.”
