Segal and Lu, Bacarella and Fuentes look to add to win tally at site of team’s first World Challenge victory

Ft. Lauderdale, Miami – The fast, rolling, and demanding Virginia International Raceway is a favorite amongst the drivers of TR3 Racing. However, the circuit also possesses some additional meaning for the team.

Last year, in the first Pirelli World Challenge Sprint-X event, TR3 Racing drivers Daniel Mancinelli and Andrea Montermini scored the first professional racing victory for TR3 Racing after one of the wildest PWC races in recent memory. This year, the team arrives at VIR with momentum on their side. On the strength of a fourth-place finish and a victory in the opening two races held at Circuit of The Americas, Wei Lu and Jeff Segal have positioned their No. 31 Ferrari of Vancouver / TR3 Racing Ferrari 488 GT3 in second position in the GT Sprint-X Pro/Am championship.

TR3 Racing took the most recent PWC Sprint championship race at the Grand Prix of Long Beach, with Daniel Mancinelli the same No. 31 Ferrari to victory.
“We had a good start to the season at Circuit of The Americas, with two positive results,” said Lu. “VIR will demand more hard work, since it is going to be my first time there. It will be challenging, but I have confidence in TR3 Racing, my teammate Jeff, and I know we have a strong Ferrari 488 GT3.”

“I am really looking forward to getting to VIR with our Ferrari,” said Segal. “VIR is a really awesome track, especially for the GT3 cars. The corners are almost exclusively medium to high-speed corners, and that’s really a strength of the Ferrari. The higher speed the corner, the more it seems to shine. Wei has no experience at VIR but he did a stellar job at Circuit of The Americas. Everything that we asked him to do, he did perfectly, and we came out of there with a race win. For a first race weekend together you can’t really ask for more. He will have some pressure to get up to speed, especially because VIR requires huge commitment and to get the speed out of the car in the high-speed corners you really need to be inch-perfect, but as he proved at CoTA he is capable of getting the job done.”

After sweeping the GT Sprint-X Am/Am races at Circuit of The Americas, Cesar Bacarella and Martin Fuentes lead that championship in the No. 07 Squadra Corse / Garage Italia Ferrari 488 GT3. Fuentes has also scored two GTA Sprint victories this season and sits second in the Overall GTA championship.

At the previous Sprint round at Long Beach, Fuentes narrowly missed the victory as he limped a damage Ferrari to the finish and had to settle for second place.
“I’m looking forward to VIR and having the opportunity to build on our Sprint-X championship lead,” said Bacarella. “Hopefully, we can continue the momentum that we enjoyed at CoTA and hopefully come out of there with a podium or a victory for Squadra Corse, Alpha Prime and Hublot.”

“After last week’s incident in Long Beach, what I need is a very good result,” said Fuentes. “So I’m excited to be heading to VIR, which is a track that I am very familiar with. I want to make the TR3 Racing team proud and I want to have all the fans of Ferrari look for our Ferrari on the top spot. The team is ready, I’m ready, and I’m looking forward to get things started this weekend.”

The Pirelli World Challenge Sprint-X GT races from VIR will be streamed live on Saturday, April 28 at 1:15 PM ET and Sunday, April 29 at 11:20 AM ET at world-challenge.com. The television broadcast will air on CBS Sports Network on Sunday, May 6 at 6:00 PM ET.
