Andrew Rains with Rains Racing gives us an update on their Honda Accord Coupe build in preparation for the 2016 PWC season.

Happy New Year!

As we start 2016 the build of our Honda Accord Coupe racecar supported by Honda Motorsports Alabama is nearing completion! We are only two months away from the car’s competition debut at Circuit of the America’s in Austin, TX, March 3rd-6th. The car has driven for the first time, and with no issues whatsoever. Today we are doing some wiring and getting a rough alignment and setup on the car so that we can do some further shakedown runs.

Robert Odom has been our primary technician on this build, and has done an amazing job. Robert will also serve as the Car Chief for the 2016 Pirelli World Challenge Season, and will also drive our team rig with me to each race. Robert has stepped up in a big way, and is doing amazing work. The build quality of the car is unquestionably factory thanks to Paul Street and the team at Honda Motorsports Alabama, and we could not be happier with the progression of our relationship with HMA. It’s amazing what happens when you get people together that have similar goals and trust one another. I cannot think the HMA Team enough, as well as National Bank of Commerce for their unwavering support and encouragement!

Our goal is to have the car ready for Dyno work by the end of next week, with the lone major project left being the fabrication of the exhaust from the J Pipe back. RV6 Performance sent us an awesome J-Pipe and Pre Cat Deletes, now it’s up to us to fabricate the rest of the system and get our Accord sounding smooth. We’re now just tying up all of the loose ends and likely will begin to order vinyl in the coming weeks.

Looking ahead we will be attending Round 1 of the Pirelli World Challenge Championships at Circuit of the America’s the first week of March for what promises to be another amazing event. As of now our plan is to sit out Round two, which takes place a Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in Ontario, Canada, to focus on fund-raising and testing, and then run TC Rounds 3-6 at Road America, Mid Ohio, Utah Motorsports Campus, and Laguna Seca respectively. We have been building a great team of partners, both product and financial, and I cannot wait to connect with more individuals and companies that are interested in what we are doing and how it impacts us as Alabamians in a positive way. We are so very thankful to be surrounded by amazing people!
