Andrew Rains with Rains Racing has posted a blog update on its Honda Accord Racecar prep for PWC in 2016. Read the blog below.

Whew! After a solid three months in the shop, I’ve begun to reflect on the build of our 2013 Honda Accord V6. Thanks to National Bank of Commerce and John Holcomb we had the confidence to undertake this immense project. It’s truly and honor to wake up each day and go to the shop knowing that we have such a great support team of friends, family, and partners that believe in us.

It’s been quite a winter at the shop here in downtown Birmingham, Alabama. After picking up our beautiful 2013 Honda Accord from central Florida, where Jeff Holbrook and Shea Racing had our awesome roll cage installed, Car Chief Robert Odom and I kicked off the build on November 23rd by painting the interior of the car. After a few days off for Thanksgiving I retuned to Auburn University for my final two weeks as a college student. Robert carried on during that time, making consistent headway each day knocking out many of time consuming projects. Finals week came and went, and then the graduation ceremonies began. For what felt like a month I was preparing for multiple graduation parties and celebrations, while also ordering parts and working alongside Paul Street and Team HMA to get Robert information so that the car build could progress.
Graduation came and went, and the day after I moved back to Birmingham, eager to get back to work with Robert in the shop. Although I was the one ordering the parts and making some decisions, Robert took the lead on the build, paying attention to every detail as parts from our partners arrived and the car began to take shape. A few days before Christmas Megan Racing sent us our suspension, what an awesome early Christmas Present! Not long after that Rich and our friends at RV6 Performance sent us some beautiful exhaust components for our J35 V6 motor. SPEC Clutch came through with a clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate that makes shifting gears quick and responsive! Chris Neuer and OMP Racing provided the best steering wheel and seat that there is, as well as some amazing driver gear. Thanks!

Between Christmas and New Year’s we made a lot of headway, preparing for a mid-January shakedown. Team HMA continued to provide non-stop support and assistance, holding our hands if necessary, and letting us go our own way at the same time. We made it to our shakedown at Talladega Gran Prix Raceway, and then spent some time with Lee Hurley on the dyno the following day. Around this time we finalized our partnership with PLK Investment Partners and Phil Passafiume for 2016. I can’t thank Phil enough for his support and confidence in our team, we’re looking forward to carrying his beautiful PLK logo in 2016!
RacerInk is our Official Apparel Partner for 2016, check out this awesome gear! Let me now if you’re interested in purchasing Team Apparel! It will be available to place an order with me following our debut at COTA. I’ll take orders and touch base with Cody and Ashley with RacerInk to have shirts made for anyone that wants one!

The to-do list grew dramatically after shakedown, and Robert and I pushed ahead with projects in the shop. Our motto was to make sure we got something done every day, we didn’t have to change the world at once, we had time to be patient and do things methodically, so we did. Preparations continued for a planned test Feb. 20-21 at Barber Motorsports Park. Our goal was to have the car in race-ready trim for this two-day event so that we could get familiar with running the car as a team. After a strenuous few weeks in the shop, we finally had a car that was 100% race ready, and we were ready to take it to the track! The rear wing had been fitted, radio and new MoTec dash installed, and all other Pirelli World Challenge items such as the motorsports safety lights had been installed as well.

The test at Barber was just what we needed to nail down our last minute to do list, and prepare the car for its World Challenge debut at Circuit of the America’s in Austin, Texas, March 4-6! The Accord was probably the fastest car at Barber. Amidst a hoard of Porsche 911’s, Nissan GTR’s and purpose built track day machinery, that’s pretty impressive!

We’re very excited to Announce two great new partners in the coming weeks! It’s such an honor to represent our partners, and we are looking forward to welcoming aboard more partners as we build a team that benefits both our local community here in Alabama, and all over the US! We’re excited to work with Honda Motorsports Alabama (Team HMA) to be ambassadors for the state of Alabama!

Thank you to the individuals who have offered your time, money, and resources to help us get to where we are today! This is not our car, this is your car and your team.

Keep following our social media activity as the countdown to COTA continues!

We’re only days away from departure!!!
