What started off for the team was a very challenging weekend at the world renown Road America circuit in the beautiful Elkhart Lake, WI area. Wiring troubles on the #26 Jetta GLI, and a small on track incident for the #44 cost the team some very valuable track time at the new circuit. Between practice and qualifying the team worked tirelessly to change gearboxes, rebuild the #44 Golf GTI front end, and switch between different Unitronic ECU calibrations! Nevertheless the team marched on to claim the starting positions of 6th for the #26 car and 13th for the #44 car respectively.

The first race brought with it the biggest success for Rains Racing to date! A podium finish (3rd place) for Mikey Taylor in the #26 Jetta GLI and the ‘Best Standing Start” award for driver Andrew Rains in the #44 Golf GTI! With this result, Rains Racing has inserted themselves in a select few team in the PWC championship who have been able to achieve a podium finish in just their second race in the series. Not only was this the first podium of the year for Rains Racing, but it was also the first podium for the Volkswagen brand in the new era of the Pirelli World Challenge Touring Car class! This feat alone made all the hard work the team has put in at the beginning of the year worth it!

With race one begin the only event on Saturday, the Rains Racing team used the rest of Saturday to properly prepare the cars for the double race event on Sunday. Race two on Sunday morning brought more success for the new team with one more podium finish for the #26 car, but this time one step higher with a second place! Once again showing the competition that Rains Racing and our sponsors are here to be competitive and not just be present.

The last race brought with it a slight harder challenge, as both the #44 and the #26 cars had to start from the rear of the field. With a couple mechanical problems the team drivers were able to limp the cars home in 6th (#26 car) and 9th (#44 car) respectively.

Overall this was the most successful weekend to date for the newly formed team, and shows what potential the team has. Unfortunately due to the damage on the #44 car, the team will have to cut back the effort to a one car attack for the remainder of the season. The team understands this might not be exactly what everyone had in mind for the 2015 season, but this is racing and it is a tough industry especially with the increasing costs and monetary sponsorship searches.
