Chicago, IL – Outlier is excited to announce a new race team that will be competing in the Pirelli World Challenge Series. Outlier posted a successful debut at Road America June 26-28 in the TC class – racing their Porsche Cayman with professional driver Kevin Krauss in the seat.
“The results from our races definitely exceeded our expectations,” said team owner Rob Bronstein. Despite issues with the clutch, which required the team to start each race from the last position, the team posted 14th and 8th place finishes in consecutive races on Sunday (out of a total field of 41 cars including 17 in the TC class). Rob also noted that “the learning curve is steep and we know most teams have years of experience with their cars and drivers competing in this series. We on the other hand, are just getting started with an entirely new team, in a new car, in a competitive series that is new to us. It is very exciting and promising to begin this weekend and finish races the way we did!” Seeing the team prevail was not the only thing Outlier was excited about. “Everyone on our team felt the collegiality of the paddock and we are very happy having decided to compete in the PWC series.“
Outlier was created by Rob Bronstein, founder and President of The Scion Group, the largest privately held owner and operator of college and university student housing in North America. Outlier will also field a Mazda RX-8 in the TCA class. Both cars will run select races for the remainder of 2015 in preparation for a full 2016 season.
“There’s a lot of great things happening for us right now,” continued Bronstein. “We signed a sponsorship deal with premier wheel company, FIKSE Wheels, and are actively engaged in several conversations with other sponsors. We couldn’t be more pleased with the performance of our driver Kevin Krauss, as well. He really delivered for the team.”
“Going into this race weekend, I felt our expectations were very realistic,” said Kevin Krauss. We wanted to gain more information on the car and build our knowledge base. Our result would have been an accomplishment for an established team, but for us, as a new team with a new car and no testing time prior to the race, to come away with 2 consecutive finishes including a top 10 was phenomenal!”
“Our race Sunday afternoon was pretty crazy,” continued Kevin. “I knew that starting from the pit lane in last place would mean I’d be very busy with traffic. However, I caught a break with the full course yellow off the start and was able to pass most of the TCA and TCB field on the restart on the front straight. When that happened, I thought we might be able to make a race of it. I did a good job getting through lapped traffic and was battling with the 7th place car at the end. It was an exciting race for me for sure. I can’t wait for Laguna Seca!”
Outlier is based in Chicago, Illinois and is managed by team Principals, Rob Bronstein, Mitch Smith and Kevin Krauss. Kevin will also serve as the team’s lead driver. The team’s technical support is headed by Luis Caban, a well-respected team manager within the professional racing community.
Outlier was formed with a focused mission to win races and ignite a love for motorsports competition in a new generation of fans. Outlier is focused on marketing the sport to younger and non-traditional fans and will change the way people think interacting with racing – focusing on new ways to interact, connect and participate with the series, cars, drivers and teams.
