FAST FACTS:

2017 Rewind: This weekend’s event at Road America will be the fourth round of the 2017 GT Sprint Championship and the first weekend of competition for GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing since Long Beach in early April. The Dallas-based team debuted their new Porsche 911 GT3 R at the season opener in Sebring. Jon Fogarty qualified eighth and finished 10th after early race contact in the first race. He suffered a mechanical failure on the formation lap in race two. Long Beach featured just one round of GT Sprint competition, where Fogarty qualified 11th and finished 9th.

Since Long Beach: Following Long Beach GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing continued its rigorous testing program, completing tests at Sebring, Sonoma Raceway, and NOLA Motorsports Park. Owner Bob Stallings chose to forego SprintX competition to continue development of the new Red Dragon™. After Road America, the team will test at Mid-Ohio Monday and Tuesday of next week and at Utah Motorsports Campus in July before return to competition at Mid-Ohio.
Willkommen Wolf! GAINSCO/Bob Stallings welcomes its newest team member, Sports Car Champion Wolf Henzler. Henzler will co-pilot the No. 99 GAINSCO Auto Insurance Porsche 911 GT3 R at the SprintX events in Utah and Texas later this summer. Henzler, a Porsche “Works Driver” since 2008, is participating in all tests with Fogarty and the No. 99 crew and has been very helpful in the development of the team’s new Porsche. The tests have also given the team the opportunity to practice pit stops prior to their upcoming SprintX races.

Memo Returns: Three years and five months after his horrific accident in the Red Dragon at the 2014 Rolex 24 At Daytona, Memo Gidley returned to the cockpit and tested the No. 99 GAINSCO Auto Insurance® Porsche 911 GT3 R last month at Sonoma Raceway. Gidley commented on his triumphant return, “It felt awesome to be back driving a race car. It felt so natural, it’s just such a comfortable environment for me.” He continued, “I’ve worked so hard to get to this point, and this was my goal. There were a lot of days where it wasn’t going well, but I just kept imagining getting back out on the track, getting back behind the wheel. I just wanted to be a driver looking for a ride, and now I am…I am back!”

Circle of Champions: GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing welcomes five special team members at Road America. GAINSCO Auto Insurance’s “Circle of Champions,” Eva Sherenian, Nola Alvarez, Salvador Pineda, Matt McCraw and Jessica Romack won the trip to Road America for their outstanding performance in exemplifying the core values of GAINSCO Auto Insurance.

Bob Stallings on Road America: “Our team has had a very long intermission from racing. Although busy with testing, we are anxious to test our capabilities with our new car against the ultra-competitive Pirelli World Challenge field of GT cars. Road America is a fun and very fast track to run on and will be a very good test for the GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing Team. Jon Fogarty is itching to get back into competition and the whole team is looking forward to a good result.”

Jon Fogarty on Road America: “I’m really excited to get back to competition. Bob’s (Stallings) given us a great opportunity to do a lot of testing and learn and develop this car on tracks we will compete on. Now though, it’s time see where we stack up and make sure that everything we’ve learned translates on the race weekend. Road America is one of my favorite racetracks and I can’t wait to get out there in a Porsche!”
