The GAINSCO Auto Insurance/Bob Stallings Racing No. 99 McLaren 650S GT3 wrapped up back-to-back race weekends on a positive note with a pair of top-ten finishes at Lime Rock Park. The Dallas based team traveled directly to Danbury, Connecticut from the event last weekend in Canada. They completed a test-day on Tuesday at Lime Rock, which despite thunderstorms, proved to be beneficial as the team continues to develop its new chassis, the McLaren 650S GT3. Fogarty’s starting positions improved this weekend and in both races he was able to race into the top-ten and set competitive lap times throughout the 50 minute races. Race two on Sunday was delayed by 30-minutes due to a violent accident involving Bentley driver Andrew Palmer and Jorge De La Torre, driver of the #4 Aston Martin. Both drivers were injured in the accident and everyone at GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing is keeping the team, drivers and their families in our thoughts and prayers.
Jon Fogarty on the weekend: “It was certainly an improvement over our results last weekend. We just keep digging and searching to find more pace. We improved each session this weekend and I definitely feel like we have direction and that we are heading in a positive direction with the development of the McLaren 650S GT3, but we still have a way to go. Right now I am sending my thoughts to the Andrew Palmer and Jorge De La Torre and their families.”
Bob Stallings, on the weekend: “Lime Rock was a good learning experience for the team. These fast tracks are more of a testing opportunity than a race for us as we continue to learn about the new car. Both Jon Fogarty and John Ward are accepting the challenge and the GAINSCO No. 99 team will figure it out soon. In the meantime, we will be testing the car before our next race at Road America to continue development.”
