BOWMANVILLE, Ont. – May 17, 2015 – NGT Motorsport crossed the border and headed into Canada last week for Rounds 8 and 9 of the Pirelli World Challenge at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. And with the GTA Drivers Championship on the line, the team focused on earning every valuable point.
NGT Motorsport entries were fast on the 2.458-mile 10-turn road course. Driver of the #30 MOMO NGT Motorsport Ferrari, Henrique Cisneros, qualified third in the GTA class, while brother Eduardo Cisneros qualified his #29 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car fourth in the GT Cup presented by MOMO.
Round 8 saw a rolling start and several laps of caution as competitors feverishly fought for position. Henrique Cisneros managed to keep his #30 Ferrari 458 GT3 Italia in third position for the duration of the
race. The #29 of Eduardo Cisneros was not so lucky, as a wounded GT competitor made contact, forcing the NGT Motorsport Porsche back into sixth place.
With extensive laps of caution in Round 8, neither driver had the opportunity to set a strong qualifying lap for Round 9, putting the #30 Ferrari in fourth position in the GTA class, and the #29 Porsche in seventh position in the GT Cup presented by MOMO.
A standing start kicked off Round 9, and as the green flag flew, the #30 of Henrique Cisneros was hit from behind by another GTA competitor. As the grid entered Turn 1, the #30 had fallen back to seventh position in the GTA class.
But Cisneros would not stay there, fighting for every position and skillfully moving his Ferrari up the GTA grid until he once again achieved a podium and claimed third place.
The #29 of Eduardo Cisneros also moved through the grid, as he managed to pass several GT Cup presented by MOMO competitors, reaching fourth place once again. But tragedy struck the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car as the GT class leaders moved through, knocking Cisneros off the track and cutting his right rear tire. Both GT class competitors would receive a penalty for the avoidable contact, but the race was over for Eduardo and his #29, and he would finish eighth.
As the weekend concluded and the championship points were distributed, Henrique Cisneros and his #30 MOMO NGT Motorsport Ferrari assumed the lead in the GTA Drivers Championship. But the competition is close, with second place only one point behind Cisneros.
“The competition in GTA is so good right now,” commented Henrique. “We have to fight for every point in every session, so it’s definitely going to be a challenge to stay on top.”
