Sunnyvale, Calif. — George Kurtz, CEO and co-founder of cybersecurity company CrowdStrike, has announced his entry in the California 8 Hours Presented by Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) race at the beautiful WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. The 2017 PWC GTSA Champion Kurtz will partner with Bryan Herta and his son Colton, the 2018 Indy Lights runner-up. The three skilled racers will compete in the 2018 Intercontinental GT Challenge (IGTC) series event with a Hyundai i30 N TCR. CrowdStrike will host a CXO Summit for guests at the beautiful road course nestled in the rolling hills and vineyards by the sea during the October 26-28 race weekend.
Kurtz is no stranger to endurance racing, having won his class at the 25 Hours of Thunderhill in both 2012 and 2017. Bryan Herta Autosport won this year’s PWC TCR teams’ championship. Together, they’ll compete in the No. 98 BHA Hyundai i30 N TCR at the longest endurance event at WeatherTech Raceway with more than 30 cars from around the world already entered.
The Intercontinental GT Challenge is the highest achievement in long-distance GT racing, and the Laguna Seca event is the final race in the IGTC series calendar of endurance races, which last for as long as 24 hours in Australia, Belgium and Japan. CrowdStrike’s guests will have the opportunity to experience the only American race in 2018 as part of a larger CXO Summit weekend. At these events, chief security officers from leading companies across the globe meet, discuss strategies for solving the most pressing cybersecurity issues today, and take time to enjoy a unique weekend of business and entertainment at the race track. This year, as part of CrowdStrike’s inaugural season sponsorship of PWC, guests had the opportunity to announce the start of races, take behind-the-scenes tours and stand at the finish line when the checkered flag waved at the end of a race.
“I’m really looking forward to racing with Bryan and Colton in the California 8 Hours race at Laguna Seca,” said Kurtz. “This will be an exciting experience for me and I feel prepared to take it on. Racing with the Pirelli World Challenge throughout the year has delivered personal achievements for me in the racecar and great professional success for CrowdStrike and our sponsors. So, to continue this momentum by hosting our CXO Summit with the IGTC series is a great bookend to this season ― and a fitting segue to the next one.”
This will be the first time Kurtz will compete with the Herta team.
“Luckily, we were able to convince George Kurtz to join the team for this event,” said Herta, “and I really think with our combined experience, we are an even stronger lineup now.”
Qualifying for the California 8 Hours Presented by Pirelli World Challenge begins on October 27 with the race starting at 9:15 a.m. Pacific time on October 28. The first and last hour of the race will be shown live on CBS Sports Network and will be streamed in its entirety on the Motor Trend on Demand app. Keep up with Kurtz and CrowdStrike on social media: on Twitter at @crowdstrikercng and Instagram @crowdstrikeracing. About Bryan Herta Autosport
Co-Founded by Bryan Herta in 2009, Bryan Herta Autosport has grown from a single-car Indy Lights team into a world-renowned auto-racing franchise. The team made its first foray into IndyCar action in 2010 with an entry in the Indianapolis 500 while continuing to run a full-time multi-car Indy Lights program. The 2011 Indianapolis 500 was the final race of the Centennial Era, a celebration of 100 years of racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Also known as “The Most Important Race in History,” the 100th anniversary of the inaugural 1911 race was the second IndyCar race in which Herta Racing competed.
Five years later, Bryan Herta Autosport, while partnered with Andretti Autosport, defied the odds again and won their second Indianapolis 500 with rookie driver Alexander Rossi. In 2015, Bryan Herta Rallysport made its debut in the exciting Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship. In 2018, Bryan Herta Autosport make a sensational introduction to the Pirelli World Challenge TCR class with drivers Mark Wilkins and Michael Lewis.
