CrowdStrike Racing Earns Two Top-10 Finishes, Hosts Cybersecurity Conference at Wisconsin’s Road America

Elkhart Lake, Wisc. — Driver George Kurtz, who is also the CEO and co-founder of Silicon Valley-based company CrowdStrike, charged through an incredibly dynamic weekend at Road America. Between hosting a corporate conference for cybersecurity executives and competing in a doubleheader race event at the Wisconsin track, he succeeded in adding yet another top-5 finish to his Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) season.

Kurtz began the weekend without a hitch, steadily decreasing his practice session lap times in his Global Motorsports Group (GMG Racing)-prepared No. 04 CrowdStrike/GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS GT4. In Saturday morning’s qualifying session, he was quick from the very start, turning top-5 lap times. Unfortunately, an incident during qualifying left the car not race-worthy.

There happened to be another new, never-before-raced Audi R8 in the GMG race trailer that had been delivered from Germany to the previous PWC race. With only six hours between the qualifying incident and the start of Race One, the skilled crew went right to work, attempting to make the car race-ready in time. They succeeded. Kurtz, penalized for switching to a new car, started from near the back of the grid, but in the 50-minute race was able to slice through the GTSA competitors, gaining nine positions to finish seventh in class. Sunday’s Race Two went even better, with Kurtz planting the new Audi firmly in fifth place for his second top-10 finish at Road America.

There was just as much excitement off the track. CrowdStrike, the Official Cybersecurity Provider of the Pirelli World Challenge, hosted its fourth CXO Summit of the year in Elkhart Lake. A group of cybersecurity executives from development, heavy machinery and data companies was invited to take part in the PWC and IndyCar race weekend and discuss the latest security issues in person. In addition to dinners at a nearby resort and a privileged race-viewing suite at the track, they were given a private meet-and-greet with racing legend Mario Andretti. To top it off, they had the opportunity to get as close to racing with Andretti as humanly possible: by hopping in a two-seater IndyCar and being driven around Road America at top speed by one of the most successful drivers of all time.

Prior to Sunday’s race, Jim Jordan, the PWC series’ director of marketing and communications, stopped by the suite to spend an hour with guests answering questions and learning more about the sport. Sunday’s race also allowed for a number of guests to participate in the waving of the green flag from the flag stand over the front straight as 39 high-performance sportscars roared under their feet — another exciting opportunity to get as close to the action as possible.

“There’s no doubt this was one of the most eventful weekends of the PWC season,” said Kurtz after Sunday’s race. “We were lucky we had our spare parts car to use in my two GTS races. The GMG crew guys did a fantastic job getting it race-ready with no time to spare. Our CXO Summit weekend went very smoothly for our guests, who got to make great connections, get up close to the races and enjoy the Wisconsin sunshine.”

A rebroadcast of the race weekend will be shown on CBS Sports Network at 9 p.m. Eastern on July 11. Follow along with George Kurtz and CrowdStrike on social media: on Twitter at @crowdstrikercng and Instagram @crowdstrikeracing. Race videos, photos and news updates can be found at
