Milwaukee, WI – JCR Motorsports driver Jeff Courtney earned a podium finish in Pirelli World Challenge GTS Round 12 last weekend at the team’s hometown track, Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
The No. 99 Kenda Tire / RecStuff.com Maserati GranTurismo MC GT4 showed strong pace out of the box at the 14-turn, 4.048 mile road course famous for its long straightaways and ultra-fast corners. The Round 11 starting grid saw Courtney starting on the fourth row in eighth position. The 50-minute race featured Courtney in an intense three-car battle for position throughout its entirety. A late race caution flag halted any forward progress and the race ended under caution with Courtney in eighth position.
Courtney’s fast race lap placed him in fifth position to start Round 12, which featured a standing start. By lap two, Courtney was in a heated battle with Ernie Francis Jr. and Anthony Mantella. While Courtney was fighting Francis Jr. and Mantella, the race leaders were extending the gap between themselves and the field. Courtney was able to overtake Francis Jr. and set his sights on Derek DeBoer for second place. Race leader Sandberg was holding a solid 5-second lead on the field while Courtney was pursuing DeBoer and eventually overtaking DeBoer with the “Cadillac ATS-V Best Move of the Race Award” Courtney then shortened that gap to Sandberg from 5-seconds to 3-seconds in a matter of laps. The clock ran out before Courtney was able to make a run at Sandberg and Courtney crossed the line in a well-deserved hard fought second place and the first podium for the Maserati GT4 in the PWC GTS Class.
“Somewhat bittersweet because our Kenda Tire, RecStuff.com Maserati was great all weekend and I really wanted to bring Maserati their first PWC win, but circumstances at the start of both races put us in a position to have to fight our way back through a very tough and competitive field! And I would have liked a few more laps on Sunday to see what we had for Brett? But congratulations to Brett and the ANSA team on their win and Thanks to the JCR crew for a great effort! It was a great weekend for our team, myself and our sponsors “Kenda Tires” and “RecStuff.com” it was awesome to have our friends and family hanging out all weekend supporting us! And Thank you to RecStuff.com for supplying food, beverages and gifts to our guests” said Courtney.
