Phoenixville, PA – Palm trees and the iconic corners of Long Beach are set to greet Calvert Dynamics and driver Andrew Davis this weekend at the Pirelli World Challenge Grand Prix of Long Beach, a single-class event for the World Challenge GT field on the street circuit in Southern California.
Davis is coming off a string of solid finishes at Circuit of the Americas and St. Petersburg as the team develops its Calvert Dynamics Porsche GT3R supported by Phoenix Performance. The spotlights will be turned up a bit at Long Beach, with a massive crowd expected and the Pirelli World Challenge’s debut of a live TV broadcast on CBS Sports Network for the race, scheduled for Sunday April 17 at 2:00 p.m. eastern.
“As the Calvert Dynamics team heads to the Long Beach Grand Prix, we expect to build on the experience of the first two rounds of the Pirelli World Challenge GT season,” said team principal Preston Calvert, who also drives the team’s GT Cup entry and will be back in action at Barber Motorsports Park later this month. “We‘ve learned a great deal about the setup requirements of the car for the very different circuits at COTA and St. Petersburg, which should help us at Long Beach. Our goal has always been to qualify and race well, and aim for a podium finish. With the team working tirelessly during the schedule break and Andrew Davis as our driver, we are ready to bring our efforts to the next level. We look forward to the great fan interest in and the fun atmosphere of the Long Beach Grand Prix.”
Sports car ace Davis is acclimating to the aggressive environment of the Pirelli World Challenge, and working his way up the time sheets while bringing home important points in a season-long campaign.
“This will be my first Long Beach Grand Prix,” Davis said. “I’ve dreamed about competing in this event since I was a little boy, so I’m beyond excited to get the season back underway at such a historic American race.
“Moving into the next round at the Long Beach Grand Prix, we’re focused on continued improvement as we get closer to maximizing the performance of both our team and the car,” Davis continued. “This event will be very challenging due to the very limited track time that we will get over the course of the weekend. We have to make quick work of optimizing the balance of the car in the short practice sessions leading up to qualifying. There will be tremendous battles throughout the competitive field just as at St. Pete. So, we need to get our Porsche up to the top of the qualifying order to help control the outcome of the race and bring home a strong finish. I’ve been very impressed and grateful for the effort put forth by the entire Calvert Dynamics team, and I feel confident that we will be in position to post up our best finish to date once the checkered flag flies on the race.”
