ANSA Motorsports team owners Alain Nadal and Patrick Otto Madsen are really pleased with the exciting season their team is having so far in the Pirelli World Challenge GTS championship. Just a year ago, Nadal and Madsen had a vision and took the challenge to import the new KTM X-Bow into North America, and so far, their decision is paying off.
ANSA Motorsports is one of the top GTS teams racing in rounds 13 and 14 of the Pirelli World Challenge this week at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, with Brett Sandberg and Bill Ziegler driving its two KTM X-Bow GT4s.
The 2016 Pirelli World Challenge GTS championship already has 12 races in the book, out of 19 scheduled this season, and ANSA is currently ranked third in the team-point standings, only 70 points behind the current championship leading team. It is still a possibility for the Miami Gardens, Florida, team to win the Pirelli World Challenge GTS Team championship this season.
With a minimum of two Reiter Engineering KTM X-Bow GT4s entered at every 2016 race since the beginning of the season, ANSA Motorsports drivers are the biggest point contributors of the two teams racing KTMs in the GTS championship. KTM currently leads the 2016 Pirelli World Challenge GTS manufacturer championship after twelve rounds and is potentially looking to clinch its first championship in North America, if KTM drivers continue on that path.
Sandberg has already collected a total of six podium finishes, including two wins at two of the most challenging tracks — COTA and Road America — and has scored the most pole positions (6) of all drivers combined with seven fastest race laps. Before this week’s doubleheader at Mid-Ohio, Sandberg is leading the Pirelli World Challenge GTS driver championship and is looking to continue racing at the front of the pack.
“Coming off a strong finish at our weekend at Road America, I am extremely excited for this upcoming race at Mid-Ohio,” Sandberg said. “Our Ansa Motorsports KTM X-Bow has been improving every weekend, and I believe we will have a strong platform to contest for another win at the treacherous Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course!”
Ziegler continues to make good progress behind the wheel of his No. 9 Swisher Racing KTM X-Bow. He had a serious accident in round 11 at Road America, but his championship-caliber team was able to fix his race car for Mid-Ohio this week.
Official practice for the Mid-Ohio event starts Thursday, July 28, with a single practice session at 1 p.m., followed by qualifying on Friday, July 29 at 12:15 p.m. Mid-Ohio GTS race 1 (round 13) is also scheduled on Friday at 5:15 p.m. Mid-Ohio GTS race 2 (round 14) is scheduled for Saturday, July 30, at 10:45 a.m. (all Eastern Standard times).
The Pirelli World Challenge GTS Championship rounds 13 and 14 at Mid-Ohio will air on CBS Sports Network, Thursday, August 11, at 10 p.m. EDT.
