Birmingham, Alabama (26 April 2015) – It was another positive weekend for Sloan Urry at Barber Motorsports Park as he delivered two podium finishes in Rounds 6 & 7 of the Pirelli World Challenge GT Cup presented by MOMO. The No. 02 Engel and Volkers and SecurityNational Porsche, fielded by TruSpeed Autosport, ran strongly all weekend long with the squad capturing good points toward the championship.
The result marks Urry’s sixth podium finish in seven races.
Urry opened Race 1 on Saturday from third on the grid after posting a quick time of 1:36.405-seconds in the morning qualifying session.
He had a great battle with Colin Thompson and Alec Udell as the trio ran 1-2-3 for much of the 29-lap race that saw three caution periods. In the final laps, Urry challenged for the runner-up position when the race finished with a one-lap green flag dash to the finish after a late-race caution, but ultimately brought the No. 02 Porsche home third for Engel & Volkers and SecurityNational.
“It was a great race for me,” said Urry of Race 1. “Alec (Udell) and Colin (Thompson) ran real tight the whole race and it was fun to have some tight battles and some dicing back and forth. Everyone played it clean. I maybe left a little bit on the table at the end there, but we definitely had the pace and I’m just happy to be on the podium for SecurityNational and Engel & Volkers. And of course, TruSpeed did an amazing job on the car, I was able to really have some pace toward the end of the race and it’s all due to that. So, it was a good first race but you always want a little more.”
Urry repeated his podium performance in Race 2 on Sunday taking the Engel & Volkers / SecurityNational car to a third place finish after lining up fourth on the grid. GTA traffic played a big role in the 50-minute race with Urry unable to challenge for the lead due to the GTA cars between he and Thompson through the opening green flag run.
The race saw two caution periods – a quick one in the beginning stages followed by an extended yellow due to a car fire about mid-way through the race.
When the field finally went back to green with just six minutes to go, Urry lined up second for the restart. A battle through the final laps as he defended against Udell saw the No. 02 cede the position but still take home a healthy haul of championship points for the third place run.
“We scored two podiums and it’s hard to get upset with that,” offered Urry. “I’m focused on the championship and I know we are capable of winning races with the No. 02 Engel and Volkers / SecurityNational car. It’s a bit frustrating that it seems like every race we are hindered by the pace of the GTA cars. I’d love to just race it out with the GT Cup cars but that’s the challenge of racing in World Challenge with multiple classes. I’m happy to be on the podium again. A big thanks to SecurityNational Mortgage, Engel & Volkers and TruSpeed.”
TruSpeed Team Owner Tyler Tadevic was pleased with the team’s performance throughout the Barber Motorsports Park event weekend.
“It was a good weekend and we’re glad to roll the car on the trailer in good shape,” said Tadevic. “It’s nice to have neither one of my drivers involved in any of the penalties that’s been going on in World Challenge. It’s too bad that the driver talent level is so varied that our race has to be affected by cars that should be much faster than we are in GT Cup. Kudos to the Kelly Moss guys and Colin (Thompson) for the win here today – we’re hoping to bring the fight to them pretty soon. Thank you to Engel & Volkers and to SecurityNational for their support – we’re looking forward to heading to Mosport next.”
TruSpeed Autosport and Sloan Urry will be back in race action at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (formerly Mosport) on May 15-17.
CBS Sports Network will televise the Pirelli World Challenge Barber Motorsports Park event on Sunday, May 3, at 2 PM ET.
