Elkhart Lake, Wis. – Tony Rivera, Sam Adams and Tom O’Gorman led Thursday morning’s TC, TCA and TCB practice, respectively at the Pirelli World Challenge Grand Prix of Road America presented by Cadillac. Weather conditions were 62 degrees with significant cloud cover for the 30-minute practice session.
At the top of the TC time sheets early it was Patrick Gallagher, driving the No. 54 Atlanta Motorsports Group Mazda MX-5, with a lap of 2:33.461.
In TCA, Eric Powell, in the No. 23 Tech Sport Racing Mazda MX-5 Cup, showed off the early pace with a lap of 2:41.440, and in TBC it was Racine, Wisconsin native Blake Thompson, driving the No. 37 Black Armor Helmets Mazda 2, with a fast lap of 3:01.084 to open the session.
Halfway through the session, Gallagher was still fastest of all over Kevin Krauss, in the No. 88 Outlier/Scion Group Alyses Light.com Porsche Cayman. Both of those drivers, however, were bumped back when Rivera, in the No. 97 Brass Monkey Racing Tiburon Motorsports Nissan 370Z, went to the top of the charts in TC with a lap of 2:30.234 ahead of Shea Holbook, in the No. 67 Shea Racing BUBBABurger/LucasOil/KoniShockAbsorbers Honda Accord V-6 Coupe, and Toby Grahovec, in the No. 26 BMW M235iR for Classic BMW Motorsports.
In TCA, Elivan Goulart, in the No. 70, S.A.C. Racing/SCDA1.com Mazda MX-5 Cup, was fastest at the halfway mark of the session with a time of 2:40.390.
In TCB, Tom O’Gorman, in the No. 94 Black Armor Helmets TNIA Honda Fit, went quickest with a 2:57.628 at the 18-minute mark ahead of Michael Johnson, in the No. 24 Tech Sport Racing Chevrolet Sonic.
With the checkered flag out, Rivera lowered his time to 2:28.905 to lead practice in the TC class ahead of Gallagher, Grahovec and Holbrook.
Near the end of the session in TCA, Adams, in the No. 48 Atlanta Motorsports Group Mazda MX5, went to the top with a lap of 2:38.539 ahead of Goulart. Third fastest of the session was Joey Bickers, in the No. 49 Atlanta Motorsports Group Mazda MX-5 Cup.
O’Gorman ultimately was fastest in TCB, pacing the session in class with a time of 2:57.127 ahead of P.J. Groenke, in the No. 25 Tech Sport Racing Verax.ca/Tundra/Clorox Pool & Spa/Cabano’s Comfort Food/Clairhaven, Ltd/Martinrea Intl Inc/Pelto Agri Investments/Ro-Ro Property Management Corp./Warp Speed Computers Inc. Chevrolet Sonic.
