Ryan Eversley Takes Honda Civic Type-R TCR to Pole Position Friday at 58th Rose Cup Races at Portland International Raceway
Veteran racer records early pole lap over Wilkins & Lewis; Kozarov, Powell Win Poles
PORTLAND, Ore. – Veteran Ryan Eversley of Atlanta, Ga., turned in a sparkling performance Friday at Portland International Raceway in winning the pole position for Saturday’s 40-minute TCR race in the 58th annual Rose Cup Races featuring the Pirelli World Challenge Presented by Honda Racing/HPD.
Currently TCR point leader after the first six rounds this year, Eversley piloted his No. 43 RealTime Racing Honda Civic Type-R TCR race car to a stellar lap of one minute, 18.342 seconds for an average speed of 90.52 miles per hour to start from the top spot in Saturday’s Round 7 TCR feature which starts 2:25 p.m. PDT. It only took three laps for Eversley to claim the TCR pole Friday.
This weekend’s PWC racing marks the first time at the 1.97-mile, 12-turn PIR road circuit in 13 years and new TCR machinery was spectacular at the popular Rose Cup weekend.
“I love coming to Portland and I was very excited last year when World Challenge announced it was coming to PIR,” said Eversley, a two-time 2018 race winner in TCR. “It is a great venue to show off the very cool PWC race cars. I love driving this RealTime Racing Honda Civic TCR and the car was great right out of the trailer today. We made a couple of minor adjustments and the car was fast, taking the pole. We had a great qualifying run in this morning’s practice and this one felt similar. So, I thought I had a good machine for this afternoon. Now it’s on to the race and these Hyundais (Mark Wilkins and Michael Lewis) will be tough again Saturday.”
Wilkins, in the No. 99 Bryan Herta Autosport with Curb/Agajanian Hyundai i30 N, secured the other front row position for Saturday’s TCR event with a time of 1:18.636 (90.18 m.p.h.) followed by his teammate Lewis, in the No. 98 Bryan Herta Autosport with Curb/Agajanian Hyundai i30 N, at 1:18.736 (90.07 m.p.h.) in the third starting slot.
The No. 74 Murillo Racing Audi RS3 LMS sedan of Matt Fassnacht recorded the fourth quickest time of TCR qualifying at 1:18.863 (89.92 m.p.h.) with former GT SprintX and GTS champion Michael Cooper fifth in the No. 44 RealTime Racing Honda Civic Type-R TCR at 1:19.210 (89.53 m.p.h.).
Completing the TCR top-ten qualifying were Mason Filippi in the No. 12 TFB Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, Michael Hurczyn in the No. 71 FCP Euro by HRD Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, J.T. Coupal in the No. 77 Compass Racing Audi RS3 LMS, Nate Vincent in the No. 72 FCP Euro by HRD Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR and Jarett Andretti in the No. 18 Copeland Motorsports/Tilton Racing Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR.
In the Touring Car class qualifying, Utah’s Vesko Kozarov took the top honors in the No. 3 Rearden Racing Nissan 370Z TC Spec with a superb lap of 1:22.147 (86.33 m.p.h.) with second going to his teammate Paul Terry in the No. 33 Rearden Racing Nissan 370Z TC Spec at 1:22.832 (85.61 m.p.h.).
