LONG BEACH, Calif. – Johnny O’Connell could be a father to many of the racers in the Pirelli World Challenge series.

Maybe that’s why the 53-year-old accepted an engine penalty ruling so gracefully in Sunday’s 50-minute Replay XD Grand Prix, part of the 42nd annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.

The Flowery Branch, Ga. resident, who has won four consecutive GT class titles, learned in the postrace inspection that his Cadillac ATS-V had inappropriate boost spikes in his traction control. He received a 10-second penalty, giving second-place finisher Alvaro Parente the win.
