Austin, TX — The opening practice session for Pirelli World Challenge GT/GTA/GT Cup classes at the Circuit of the Americas and the Nissan Grand Prix of Texas brought to you by Motul stopped shortly after it began.

On lap two the No.80 ACS Manufacturing/Lone Star Racing Dodge Viper GT3R driven by Dan Knox of Pilot Point TX., and Bill Ziegler’s No.95 Swisher Racing Turner Motorsport BMW E89 Z4 GT3 made contact that resulted in major damage to the Viper. Practice had to be red flagged to repair the barriers in turn 11 where the incident took place.

When the session ended Frank Montecalvo, of Highlands, NJ, in the No. 66 Bayshore Racing Dragon Speed Mercedes-Benz AMG SLS GT3 was on top of the GT/GTA field with a 2:05.656. Following Montecalvo was Olivier Beretta of Monte Carlo in the No. 61 Ferrari of Ontario/Toronto/Alberta R. Ferri Motorsport Ferrari 458 GT3 Italia with a time of 2:05.823. Third fastest was the No. 9 K-PAX Racing McLaren 650S GT3 driven by Kevin Estre from Locmau, Austria.

In the GT Cup presented by MOMO class, the No. 11 driven by Colin Thompson, of Doylestown, PA, in his Porsche of Bucks County/Penn Valley Constructors/Sherwin Williams Automotive Finishes/Austin Hatcher Foundation, Kelly Moss Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup was on top with a time of 2:11.657. Second fastest was Alec Udell from The Woodlands, TX. in his No. 17 GMG 911 with a fast time of 2:12.557. Rounding out the GT Cup top three was Sloan Urry, from Salt Lake City, UT. in his No. 02 Engel & Volkers, TruSpeed Autosport 911 with a lap of 2:12.610.

The combined field will have their second practice this afternoon with qualifying tomorrow at 9:30 am central and their first race of 2015 at 2:50 pm. Both tomorrow and Sunday’s races will be streamed live @ World-Challengetv.com. and broadcast on CBS Sports Network Saturday, March 14, 11 AM Eastern.
