SprintX Round 4 Set for 3:55 p.m. Friday on fast 1.5-mile road circuit

LAKEVILLE, Conn. – In challenging conditions with rain coming down, Patrick Long took pole in Pirelli World Challenge GT Pro/Pro qualifying for the first SprintX race at the Grand Prix of Lime Rock Park.

Long put in his best lap of the session on his last attempt in the No. 58 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R entry, taking pole by just .014 seconds over Daniel Morad in the CRP Racing Mercedes AMG GT3.

“We knew that the pole run would come down to the end of the session,” said Long, the St. Petersburg GT race winner. “I didn’t want my confidence to drift and stay focused to improve with each lap…. Whether it was just a tenth of a second. Fortunately, it would worked for us and I’m happy to win the pole. The way this championship goes, a point here and a point there can help you. With the short 10-minute qualifying session, I knew it would come right down the end and everyone was just pushing their hardest. That made the circuit faster with each lap too.”

“I’m really happy to put the car on the front row for the second race in a row,” said Morad, the VIR winner with co-driver Ryan Dalziel. “This time within a tenth of a second. It’s bitter sweet, but starting second is not a bad thing by any means, considering where we were during practice. I’m thanking the weather gods that it rained a little bit. We’ll see what we can do in the race this afternoon. We have a lot to do for the dry set up on the car. I’m pretty optimistic starting in the front row because this place is so hard to overtake. Hopefully if we start up front, we can get a good result.’

It was just over a tenth of a second back to third-place qualifier as Spencer Pumpelly, in the Magnus Racing Audi RS 8 LMS.

Ryan Eversley, in the RealTime Racing Acura NSX GT3, and Michael Cooper, in the Cadillac Racing Cadillac ATS-V.R, rounded out the top five. Those top five qualifiers were covered by a tight blanket of just .371 seconds.

Also in wet conditions, Franke Montecalvo took pole in the GT Pro/Am category during SprintX qualifying from Lime Rock Park which took place just after noon on Friday afternoon.

Montecalvo, driving the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3, beat out Michael Schein for the class pole. Schein’s Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R was just under two tenths off the top time in the GT Pro/Am class.

“Going out today, I got my first laps in qualifying,” said Montecalvo. “The red flags shortened my session in practice. So, I didn’t get any laps this morning. I had never driven the car in the rain or on rain tires. That was an interesting experience. But the Nissan is a very good car. This is my third pole position so far in SprintX for the Pro/Am class. The guys at AIM Autosport and Always Evolving do a great job in starting up the race car. I think we’ll be good in the race whether it rains or doesn’t. We are ready for today’s race.”

The GT Am/Am pole went to Tyler McQuarrie in the MOMO/NGT Motorsports Ferrari 458 GT3.

In GT Cup Pro/Am, Yuki Harata, in the No. 55 Dream Racing Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo took pole for the first race in the wet qualifying session.

In GTS Am/Am, a late quick lap saw the No. 077 of Chris Hall steal pole in the Volt Racing Ford Mustang. Hall took the pole from the No. 019 of Aristotle Balogh who was fastest for most of the session in the Stephen Cameron Racing BMW M3 E46.

SprintX action continues from the Pirelli World Challenge Grand Prix of Lime Rock Park at 3:55 p.m. local time with the first 60-minute race of the weekend featuring driver changes. All results are provisional until posted Final.
