Kaffer Takes Quickest lap in the wet conditions at famed 4-mile road course

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. – Another afternoon rain storm hampered the Pirelli World Challenge GT/GTA/GT Cup practice round Thursday at the historic Road America road circuit but veteran Pierre Kaffer posted the top speed of 101.81 miles per hour in the No. 4 Magnus Racing Audi RS8 LMW sports car in the PWC Grand Prix presented by VP Racing Fuels.

Kaffer, the world-renown sports car driver, clocked a single best lap of two minutes, 23.130 seconds in the wet conditions over the famed road circuit for the average speed of 101.81. The Germany racer recorded his top lap on his 10th circuit of the Road America racing surface.

Second in Thursday’s practice was defending PWC GT champion Alvaro Parente of Portugal in the No. 9 K-PAX Racing McLaren 650S with a time of 2.23.927 (101.25 m.p.h.) followed by last year’s Road America pole winner Adderly Fong of Hong Kong in the No. 88 Absolute Racing Bentley Continental GT3 at 2:23.958 (101.22 m.p.h.)

The Mercedes-AMG pair of Ryan Dalziel of Scotland and Alexandre Negrao of Brazil rounded out the top-five GT drivers Thursday, as Dalziel drove the No. 2 CRP Racing/Devilbiss Mercedes-AMG GT3 to a 2:24.117 (101.11 m.p.h) and Negrao piloted the No. 92 MCC Mercedes-AMG GT3 to a 2:24.279 (101.00 m.p,h.).

Current GT overall point leader Michael Cooper of Syosset, N.Y., recorded the sixth quickest time of 2:224.409 (100.91 m.p.h.) in the No. 8 Cadillac Racing Cadillac ATS-V.R. followed by Clemson University student Alec Udell of The Woodlands, Tex., in the No. 17 Euroworld Motorsports/GMG Porsche 911 GT3 R at 2:22.889 (100.57 m.p.h.).

Topping the GTA category was current class point leader Michael Schein of Glen Cove, N.Y., in the No. 16 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R at 2:27.513 (98.78 m.p.h.) with second going to James Sofronas of Villa Park, N.Y., in the No. 14 GMG Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R at 2.29.037 (97.77 m.p.h.).

The GT/GTA/GT Cup divisions will practice next Friday at 5:10 p.m. CDT.
