Peter Kox Scores Acura NSX GT3 1st PWC Pole Position Saturday In SprintX Qualifying at Utah Motorsports Campus

Veteran Racer only driver to break 1:48 barrier in time trials

GRANTSVILLE, Utah – Peter Kox of The Netherlands recorded the first Pirelli World Challenge pole position for the all-new Acura NSX GT3 sports car Saturday at Utah Motorsports Campus by driving the No. 93 RealTime Racing Acura NSX GT3 to a one minute, 47.993 seconds (101.60 miles per hour) in winning the pole for Saturday’s Round 7 SprintX 60-minute event in the Security National Mortgage SuperCar Grand Prix of Utah.

Kox was the only SprintX driver to break the 1:48.00 mark in qualifying Saturday around the 3.048-mile, 14-turn permanent road circuit southwest of Salt Lake City.

The last Acura pole position in the Pirelli World Challenge was recorded last year at Road America by Ryan Eversley in the No. 43 RealTime Racing Acura TLX.

“I think as we said all along – RealTime Acura, HPD, all the people at Honda HRD – worked hard to get closer and closer and I think we gradually have been working our way into the competition,” said Kox, the early test driver for the Acura NSX GT3 program. “We also shouldn’t forget that the competition has been out there longer than us and now to get the first pole for RealTime Acura in a PWC race is quite amazing. I’m really happy with that and proud that I could do it. With the track conditions and the sand and everything I would say Zandvoort comes pretty close to this track; the wind and the sand, and the conditions can change quite rapidly. As far as the layout, I think every circuit is unique and this one suits the Acura NSX and we’re happy with the pole.”

VIR SprintX winner Daniel Mancinelli of Italy drove his No. 31 TR3 Racing/Italian Shoemaker Ferrari 488 GT3 the second spot Saturday in the 31-car field with a 1:48.032 (101.56 m.p.h.) followed by current Overall GT point leader Patrick Long of Manhattan Beach, Calif., in the No. 58 Wright Mototsports Porsche 911 GT3 R at 1:48.077 (101.52 m.p.h.), Eversley of Atlanta, Ga., in the No. 43 RealTime Racing Acura NSX GT3 at 1:48.284 (101.33 m.p.h.) and Ricky Taylor of Apopka, Fla., in the No. 3 Cadillac Racing Cadillac ATS-V.R. at 1:48.386 (101.23 m.p.h.).

Leading the Pro/Am division was former GTA class champion Frankie Montecalvo of Highlands, N.J. in the No. 75 Always Evolving/AIM Autosport Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 at 1:48.935 (100.72 m.p.h.). The pole was Montecalvo’s third this year in the Pro/Am class.

Second in Pro/Am qualifying was Pro/Am point leader Michael Schein of Glen Cove, N.Y., in the No. 16 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R at 1:49.185 (100.49 m.p.h.) with third going to GTA point leader James Sofronas of Villa Park, Calif., in the No. 14 GMG Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R at 1:50.246 (99.52 m.p.h.).

Veteran Kris Wilson of Littleton, Colo., posted the top Am/Am qualifying time of 1:50.791 (99.03 m.p.h.) in the No. 013 RFerri Motorsports/Ferrari of Ontario Ferrari 458 GT3.

Saturday’s Qualifying results for Round 7 Pirelli World Challenge SprintX event at Utah Motorsports Campus. Results are provisional until posted Final.
