Filippi, Powell, O’Connell Lead Respective Classes
Austin, Texas – Mason Filippi (Alamo, Calif.), driving the No. 12 Winding Road Team TFB BMW M235iR, set the fastest lap in Practice 2 for the Pirelli World Challenge Grand Prix of Texas at COTA Touring Car (TC / TCA / TCB) sessions on the 3.4-mile, multi-elevation track with a two-minute, 26.571-second lap averaging 84.26 m.p.h. Montreal, Quebec, Can.’s Nick Wittmer captured the second top spot in the No. 91 ST Racing BMW M235iR with a 2:26.963 (84.04 m.p.h.) lap. A 2:27.759 circuit averaging 83.58 m.p.h. by Matt Travis in the No. 26 BMW Classic BMW BMW M235iR was good enough for third in Touring Car Practice.
TCA class practice was led by Eric Powell (Orlando, Fla.), turning a quickest lap of 2:36.614 at 78.86 m.p.h. to lead the field in the No. 23 Tech Sport Racing Scion FR-S.
In TCB class, Powell’s teammate Canaan O’Connell of Chandler, Ariz., drove the No. 24 Tech Sport Racing Chevrolet Sonic to the class’ fastest lap of 2:54.268 at an average 70.87 m.p.h.
Qualifying for all Touring Car classes begins at 4:25 p.m. CDT on Friday afternoon.
