Schwartz Leads 1st TC Practice Friday at the Glen
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. – Former Pirelli World Challenge series champion Johan Schwartz of Huntersville, N.C., drove his Rooster Hall Racing/West Virginia University BMW M235iR sports car to the fastest time in the first Touring Car class practice Friday at Watkins Glen International in the PWC Grand Prix of Watkins Glen presented TM Performance.
Schwartz, the 2015 TCB series titleholder, posted a best time of two minutes, 4.939 seconds for an average speed of 97.16 miles per hour, as the veteran BMW driver seeks to improve on his third-place rating currently in the TC point standings. The TC doubleheader weekend at the Glen will having valuable points on the line for the final standings.
Taking second in the first TC practice was another veteran, John Weisberg of Webster, N.Y., with a 2:05.054 (97.07 m.p.h.) in the No. 51 BERG Racing Mazda MX-5 TC Spec car followed by Karl Wittmer of Montreal, Que., Canada, in the No. 91 CLASSIC BMW BMW M235iR at 2:05.167 (96.98 m.p.h.), Jeff Ricca of Milford, Conn., in the No. 78 GenRacer Genesis Couple at 2:05.860 (96.45 m.p.h.) and Dennis Hanratty Jr. of Mechanicsburg, Pa., in the No. 40 Krugspeed Lotus Exige at 2:05.998 (96.35 m.p.h.).
The second Touring Car practice Friday at Watkins Glen’s 3.4-mile, 11-turn circuit will be at 2:15 p.m. EDT.
