Jade Buford Takes Mustang to 1st Friday in GTS Practice at the Glen; Courtney Leads GTSA Entries in Opening Practice Friday
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. – Jade Buford and his pink No. 55 PF Racing Ford Mustang GT4 proved to be the quickest combination in Friday practice 1 for the GTS/GTSA class at Watkins Glen International in the Pirelli World Challenge Grand Prix of Watkins Glen presented by TM Performance.
Buford, a multi-time GTS race winner from Nashville, Tenn., recorded a best lap of one minute, 56.748 seconds for an average speed of 103.97 miles per hour at the famed 3.4-mile, 11-turn road circuit in upstate New York.
Right behind Buford Friday was current GTS Overall and Sprint class point leader James Sofronas of Villa Park, Calif., in the No. 14 GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS GT4 sports car at 1:56.939 (103.80 m.p.h.) followed by five-time PWC series champion Lawson Aschenbach of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., in the No. 1 Blackdog Speed Shop Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R at 1:56.954 (103.79 m.p.h.).
Fourth overall in GTS practice was veteran Jeff Courtney of Milwaukee, Wis., in the No. 99 JCR Motorsports Maserati Grand Turismo GT4 at 1:57.553 (103.26 m.p.h.). Courtney, the Road America GTSA winner, was the leading GTSA driver with second being Mike Hedlund of Redwood City, Calif., in the No. 45 Flying Lizard Motorsports Audi R8 LMS at 1:57.582 (103.24 m.p.h.) and third to Nicolai Elghanayan in the No. 71 Marco Polo Motorsports KTM X-Bow GT4 at 1:57.886 (102.97 m.p.h.).
The second TCR/TCA practice session on Friday is set for 5:10 p.m.
