GT Overall Point Leader Vilander Quickest in 1st GT Practice Friday
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. – Pirelli World Challenge GT Overall point leader Toni Vilander of Finland paced the first GT practice round Friday morning at Watkins Glen International in the final weekend of the 2018 Pirelli World Challenge GT Overall and GT Sprint season.
Vilander, the newly-crowned GT SprintX champion with co-driver Miguel Molina, drove his No. 61 RFerri Motorsport Ferrari 488 GT3 to a best lap of one minute, 44.206 seconds at an average of 116.49 miles per hour as the two-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner seeks the coveted pole and one extra point towards the GT titles.
Trailing Vilander Friday morning was 2016 GT series champion Alvaro Parente of Portugal in the No. 9 K-PAX Racing Bentley Continental GT3 with a quick time of 1:44.414 (116.26 m.p.h.) with third going to current 24 Hours of Le Mans class winner Michael Christensen of Denmark in the No. 24 Alegra Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R at 1:44.693 (115.95 m.p.h.).
Rounding out the top-five in the GT division in the first Friday session was young Rodrigo Baptista of Brazil in the No. 3 K-PAX Racing Bentley Continental GT3 at 1:44.807 (115.82 m.p.h.) and GT Sprint point leader Scott Hargrove of Canada in the No. 96 Pfaff Motorsports/Castrol Porsche 911 GT3 R at 1:44.940 (115.67 m.p.h.).
The second GT practice round is scheduled for 3:10 p.m. EDT.
