ALTON, Va. – Matthew Fassnacht of Lancaster, Pa., the reigning TCA series champion, put his No. 74 Murillo Racing Audi R3 LMS machine at the top of the TCR class lap charts Friday morning in Pirelli World Challenge practice round one at VIRginia International Raceway in the PWC Grand Prix of Virginia presented by Audi Sport.

Fassnacht, a two-time VIR race winner last year, was the only driver to beat the one minute, 57-second mark Friday morning with a 1:56.895 clocking for an average speed of 100.70 miles per hour the TCR class debut at VIR.

Following Fassnacht in the opening TCR practice was COTA Round 2 race winner Mark Wilkins of Canada in the No. 99 Bryan Herta Autosport Hyundai i30 N TCR car at 1:57.124 (100.50 m.p.h.), Ryan Eversley of Atlanta, Ga., in the No. 43 RealTime Racing Honda Civic Type-R TCR at 1:57.148 (100.48 m.p.h.), Anthony Geraci of Glen Head, N.Y., in the No. 69 Heinlein Racing Development Audi Sport RS3 LMS at 1:57.283 (100.37 m.p.h.) and Nate Vincent of Pomfret, Conn., in the No. 72 FCP Euro by HRD Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR at 1:57.293 (100.36 m.p.h.).

The leader in the TCA division was COTA race winner Eric Powell of Orlando, Fla., at 2:09.014 (91.24 m.p.h.), easily better than Fassnacht’s VIR track record of 2:10.041 set last year, set in the No. 95 TechSport Racing Subaru BRZ tS.

Second in the TCA class was Kenny Murillo of Santa Rosa, Calif., in the No. 24 Murillo Racing Mazda Global MX-5 Cup at 2:09.257 (91.07 m.p.h.) followed by Bryan Ortiz of Bayamon, P.R., in the No. 4 Copeland Motorsports Mazda MX-5 Cup at 2:09.367 (90.99 m.p.h.).

The second Friday TCR/TCA division practice is set for 4:35 p.m. EDT.
