Honda’s Ryan Eversley Takes Civic Type-R Car to Fastest TCR Friday at VIR in Pirelli World Challenge GP of VIRginia

Honda, Audi, Hyundai, Alfa Romeo, VW all in the Top 8 Friday

ALTON, Va. – Popular Ryan Eversley of Atlanta, Ga., put the all-new Honda Civic Type-R TCR machine at the top of the practice session timing charts Friday afternoon at VIRginia International Raceway in the Pirelli World Challenge Grand Prix of Virginia presented by Audi Sport featuring Rounds 3 and 4 of the new TCR division.

Eversley, driving the No. 43 RealTime Racing Honda Civic Type-R TCR, recorded a strong one minute, 56.580 seconds at the 3.27-mile, 17-turn road circuit for an average speed of 100.97 miles per hour in the debut of the new international class at the VIR racing facility.

“Everything was fantastic,” said smiling Eversley. “I was talking to George (Harmon) from HPD about how much I love driving this new Civic Type R. It’s so fun, it’s on rails, it has so much cornering ability. Then you come to VIR and there’s straightaways but those esses are no joke. This thing is flat all the way through them and stuck to the ground. It’s enjoyable to drive something this well-prepared and this well-equipped at a track like this. It’s been a very good day for us.

“We’ll see what happens tomorrow. We were really fast at practice at COTA and then a couple of cars decided to really show what they had. I think that will happen again Saturday, but we won’t be bad. Even if we don’t have the straight-line speed, we’re flying through the esses so fast that it’s crazy. We’ll be in the hunt for sure.”

Canada’s Jerimy Daniel notched the second-best time Friday in the TCR group in his No. 2 The Racing Company Audi Sport RS3 LMS at 1:56.787 (100.79 m.p.h.) followed by Anthony Geraci of Glen Head, N.Y., in the No. 69 Heinlein Racing Development Audi RS3 LMS at 1:57.005 (100.61 m.p.h.).

The COTA double-winning Bryan Herta Autosport Hyundai i30 N TCR pair of Michael Lewis and Mark Wilkins round out the top-five in TCR Friday. Lewis, the Californian in the No. 98 BHA Hyundai i30 N TCR, clocked a 1:57.140 (100.49 m.p.h.) for fourth with Wilkins, the Canadian in the No. 99 BHA Hyundai i30 TCR, fifth at 1:57.171 (100.46 m.p.h.).

Leading the TCA division Friday at VIR was Bryan Ortiz of Puerto Rico in the No. 4 Copeland Motorsports Mazda Global MX5 Cup at 2:09.232 (91.09 m.p.h.) followed by Travis Washay of Milford, Conn., in the No. 30 Indian Summer Racing Volkswagen Golf GTI at 2:09.407 (90.96 m.p.h.) and COTA race-winner Eric Powell of Orlando, Fla., in the No. 95 TechSport Racing Subaru BRZ tS at 2:09.768 (90.71 m.p.h.).

Qualifying for the TCR and TCA classes is set for Saturday at 9:10 a.m. EDT with Round 3 of the TCR and TCA divisions scheduled for 2:40 p.m. EDT. Sunday’s TCR and TCA Round 4 event gets underway at 10:20 a.m. EDT.
