Colin Braun/George Kurtz pace PWC GTS SprintX Practice Friday With CrowdStrike/GMG Audi R8 LMS GT4 at COTA

N. Wittmer/Tan & Szymczak/Fassnacht Round Out Top 3

Austin, Texas – Endurance veteran Colin Braun drove the No. 04 CrowdStrike/GMG Audi R8 LMS GT4 to the quickest lap time Friday at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in the GTS SprintX Pro-Am division in the opening practice for the Pirelli World Challenge Grand Prix of Texas preparation for this weekend’s doubleheader 60-minute, two-driver features on Saturday and Sunday.

Braun, the international racer from Rock Hill, S.C., clocked his best time in the Friday morning practice round with a two minute, 18.271-seconds for an average of 89.3 miles per hour. Braun will team this weekend with George Kurtz, the 2017 GTSA sprint champion who enters his first SprintX contest this weekend after scoring nine sprint victories last year for GMG Racing.

“I had my first opportunity to drive the Audi R8 yesterday and the GMG crew does a really good job sorting out the car,” said Braun. “Audi sends over a good solid car and GMG just improves on it. I have been here quite a bit over the years and I just need to learn how to drive the car quickly around here. We will continue to learn and improve the car for qualifying and the two races this weekend. George and I have also worked on our driver changes. And we feel we are ready for the races with that aspect.”

Second in the Friday practice rounds for GTS SprintX was the team of Nick Wittmer and Samantha Tan in the No. 38 ST Racing BMW M4 GT4 with Wittmer clocking a 2:18.315 (89.2 m.p.h.) followed by the duo of 2017 TCA champion Matt Fassnacht and Christian Szymczak in the No. 34 Murillo Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4 at 2:18.527 (89.1 m.p.h.), Kyle Marcelli and Orey Fidani in the No. 13 Pfaff Motorsports Porsche Cayman GT4 CS-MR at 2:18.625 (89.0 m.p.h.) and Stevan McAleer and Justin Raphael in the No. 17 Raphael & Associates/Classic BMW BMW M4 GT4 at 2:19.041 (88.8 m.p.h.).

The top Am-Am GTS SprintX team Friday was Henry Schmitt and Greg Liefooghe in the No. 88 Stephen Cameron Racing BMW M4 GT4 at 2:19.627 (88.4 m.p.h.) with second going to Drew Staveley, driving solo this weekend, in the No. 12 Ian Lacy Racing Ginetta G55 at 2:19.990 (88.2 m.p.h.) and the pair of 2016 TC champion Toby Grahovec and Chris Ohmacht in the No. 92 Classic BMW BMW M4 GT4 at 2:19.995 (88.2 m.p.h.).
