Canadian Kyle Marcelli Takes Porsche Cayman to Best GTS SprintX Time Friday; German Moritz Kranz Paces the Amateur Division Friday Also in a Porsche
LAKEVILLE, Conn. – Young Canadian star Kyle Marcelli of Midland, Ont., Canada produced the quickest time of the day for the GTS SprintX division Friday in opening practice runs at Lime Rock Park in the Pirelli World Challenge Grand Prix of Lime Rock powered by M.
Marcelli, a past GT SprintX race winner, piloted the No. 13 Pfaff Motorsports Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR sports car to a clocking of 55.043 seconds and an average speed of 96.40 miles per hour in the 35-car field at the 1.5-mile, seven-turn road circuit.
Second overall and the top Amateur competitor was the impressive Moritz Kranz of Germany in the No. 21 Muehiner Motorsports America Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR with a very close 55.051 second lap for an average speed of 96.39 m.p.h. followed by endurance veteran Colin Braun of Harrisburg, N.C., teaming for 2017 GTSA champion George Kurtz, in the No. 04 Crowdstrike/GMG Audi R8 LMS at 55.063 (96.36 m.p.h.).
Fourth in the first GTS SprintX practice round was the current GTS SprintX point leader James Sofronas of Villa Park, Calif., in the No. 14 GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS at 55.222 (96.09 m.p.h, as last year’s GT SprintX Pro-Am champion pairs up this weekend again with two-time 2018 race winner Alex Welch of Englewood, Colo.
Completing the top-five in GTS SprintX practice Friday was the Pro/Am team of Christian Szymczak of Oakland, Calif., and Matthew Fassnacht of Lancaster, Pa., in the No. 34 Fooji/Murillo Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 at 55.340 (95.88 m.p.h.).
Following Segal/Lu in the Amateur category was Nicolai Eighanayan of Laguna Beach, Calif., in the No. 71 Marco Polo Motorsports KTM X-Bow at 55.352 (95.86 m.p.h.) and Dr. Preston Calvert of Potomac, Md., in the No. 51 Team Panoz Racing Panoz Avezanno GT at 55.624 (XX.XX m.p.h.).
