Pumpelly Runs Top GT SprintX Pro Practice Speed at Lime Rock Park; Segal Takes Ferrari to Pro/Am Practice Honors

LAKEVILLE, Conn. – Veteran Spencer Pumpelly of Atlanta, Ga., picked up right where he left off last year at Lime Rock Park in the GT SprintX class with a superb practice lap of 52.07 seconds Friday in the No. 24 Alegra Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R in the opening round of action for the Pirelli World Challenge Grand Prix of Lime Rock powered by M.

Pumpelly, who captured the Saturday 60-minute GT SprintX feature last year at Lime Rock Park, is teaming with veteran Porsche driver Michael Christensen of Denmark this weekend and the Georgia ace left little doubt he could be the one to beat again. Spencer clocked an average of 101.90 miles per hour for Friday’s top practice speed.

Trailing the Porsche driver was the R. Ferri Motorsports duo of Toni Vilander and Miguel Molina in the No. 62 R. Ferri Motorsports Ferrari 488 GT3 with a best time of 52.161 seconds (101.73 m.p.h.) followed by the No. 2 CRP Racing/DeVilbiss Mercedes-AMG GT3 sports car of Daniel Morad and Raffaele Marciello with a third-best reading of 52.248 seconds (101.56 m.p.h.).

Taking fourth in the GT SprintX practice round was Jeff Segal of Miami, Fla, in the No. 31 TR3 Racing/Ferrari of Vancouver Ferrari 488 GT3 at 52.570 (100.93 m.p.h.). Segal and his teammate Wei Lu of Vancouver, B.C., Canada were the leading Pro-Am runner Friday at Lime Rock Park.

Rounding out the top-five was VIR GT SprintX overall winner Mike Skeen of Charlotte, N.C., in the No. 80 Lone Star Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 at 52.794 (100.51 m.p.h.). Skeen will pair this weekend with young Scott Heckert, originally from Connecticut and now living in Charlotte.

Second in the Pro/Am division was the No. 19 TruSpeed Motorsports Audi R8 LMS tandem of 17-year-old Parker Chase of New Braunfels, Tex., coming  off his first PWC race win last week at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, and two-time 2017 GT SprintX race winner Ryan Dalziel of Scotland. The Audi duo recorded a best time of 52.805 (100.49 m.p.h.) followed by another strong Pro/Am lineup in Tim Pappas of Boston and Jeroen Bleekemolen of Monaco in the No. 54 Black Swan Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R at 52.867 (100.37 m.p.h.).

The GT SprintX Amateur team Friday in practice was the No. 07 Squadra Corse Garage Italia Ferrari 488 GT3 of Martin Fuentes of Mexico and Caesar Bacarella of Miami with a time of 53.798 (98.63 m.p.h.).

GT SprintX qualifying is set to take place Saturday at 3:05 p.m. EDT.
