BOWMANVILLE, Ont., Canada – Long Beach GT Sprint race winner Daniel Mancinelli of Italy led a track record breaking GT practice Round 1 Friday morning with a one minute, 14.811 second lap for average speed of 118.33 miles per hour at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park road circuit in the Pirelli World Challenge portion of the Castrol presents Victoria Day SpeedFest.

Driving the No. 31 TR3 Racing Ferrari 488 GT3 sports car, Mancinelli unofficially was quicker than Johnny O’Connell’s 2015 mark of 1:15.296 (117.568 m.p.h.) over the 2.459-mile, 10-turn historic course northeast of Toronto.

Trailing Mancinelli in the opening 40-minute practice round was 2016 GT Sprint champion Alvaro Parente of Portugal in the No. 9 K-PAX Racing Bentley Continental GT3, who also bettered O’Connell’s track mark with a 1:14.831 (118.29 m.p.h.), and Denmark’s Michael Christensen at 1:14.909 (118.17 m.p.h.) in the No. 24 Alegra Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R.

GT Overall point leader Scott Hargrove recorded the fourth quickest of the session in the Toronto-based No. 96 Pfaff Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R at 1:15.375 (117.44 m.p.h.) followed by local racer Daniel Morad in the No. 2 CRP Racing/DeVilbiss Mercedes-AMG GT3 at 1:15.983 (116.50 m.p.h.).

In the GTA division, it was a two-car duel in practice 1 with 2016 series champion Martin Fuentes of Mexico pacing the class in his No. 07 Squadra Corse Garage Italia Ferrari 488 GT3 at 1:16.234 (116.12 m.p.h.) over VIR GT SprintX overall winner Rodrigo Baptista of Brazil at 1:16.242 (116.10 m.p.h.) in the No. 3 K-PAX Racing Bentley Continental GT3.

The next CTMP GT Sprint practice session will take place at 3 p.m. EDT Friday.
