Goulart Wins 3 out of 4 Races in Touring Car Classes

LAKEVILLE, Conn. – Elivan Goulart swept TCA competition at Lime Rock Park by taking the win on Saturday afternoon in the No. 70 S.A.C. Racing Mazda Global MX-5 Cup Car, leading flag-to-flag from an exciting standing start in the 40-minute race.

Teammate Matthew Fassnacht finished second while Tom O’Gorman came home third. Canaan O’Connell won the competitive TCB class for the second straight day for Tech Sport Racing.

Goulart makes it three wins in four starts in two days at Lime Rock, as the Connecticut resident won in TC in a Lotus Exige in his class debut and won both TCA races in the S.A.C. Racing Mazda.

“ It was a great start and it was my first standing start in the new Mazda Global MX-5 car,” said Goulart. “I was a little nervous about it. Both starts with the Mazda and the Lotus were excellent today. The TCB guys were racing really hard for lead and I wanted to be fair to them. So, I gave them some room. It was a great weekend with three wins in four races. It was a great weekend for me in the points too.”

Fassnacht came home second in the No. 74 entry and ran the fastest lap of the race at 59.784.

O’Gorman completed the podium in the No. 94 Shea Racing Honda Civic Si, bouncing back from a 10th place finish on Friday.

The TCB race was its trademark level of competitive with five cars fighting for the race lead before Friday winner Canaan O’Connell separated himself from the pack and took the checkered flag first for Tech Sport Racing in the No. 24 Chevrolet Sonic.

“It was crazy out there this afternoon,” said O’Connell, son of the four-time PWC GT champion Johnny O’Connell. “The TCB division is so competitive and you can’t make a mistake. That was some of the most fun driving I have ever done. I got lucky with lapped traffic. Youhave to play the chest game and set up your passing. Some time is faster to lift off the throttle and pick a spot to move. It worked for me today. A double win weekend is great and I thank the Tech Sport Racing crew for a big double win.”

Completing the TCB podium was O’Connell’s Tech Sport teammate, P.J. Groenke, who finished second, while Taylor Handwerk finished third in the Indian Summer Racing MINI Cooper.

Next up, Touring Car classes head to Utah Motorsports Campus, for a full Pirelli World Challenge multi-class weekend of competition in an action-packed weekend scheduled for August.
