Liefooghe, Ellsworth & Weisberg Fastest in TC, Henderson in TCA, Pipal in TCB

ALTON, Va. – Four separate auto manufacturers were represented Friday in the Touring Car practice portion of the Pirelli World Challenge Nissan Grand Prix of VIR for Round 1 and 2 at the 3.27-mile, 17-turn permanent road racing circuit.

Greg Liefooghe of San Francisco, Calif., recorded the fastest TC time Friday in the No. 20 ART Racing/Cameron Racing BMW M235iR sedan at two minutes, 2.567 seconds (96.04 miles per hour average) to lead the 30-car TC field over the No. 11 Porsche Cayman of Cody Ellsworth of Jupiter, Fla., at 2:03.036 (96.67 m.p.h.), the No. 5 BERG Racing Mazda MX-5 of John Weisberg of Webster, N.Y., at 2:03.275 (95.49 m.p.h.) and the No. 34 of Tony Rivera of Oceanside, Calif., in the No. 34 Brass Monkey Racing Nissan 370Z at 2:03.831 (95.06 m.p.h.).

Rounding the top-five in the TC category Friday was Aristotle Balogh of Palo Alto, Calif., in the No. 19 Stephen Cameron Racing BMW M235iR at 2.04.049 (94.89).

The leader in the TCA division was Brian Henderson of Faimouth, Mass., in the No. 97 Copeland Motorsport Mazda Global MX-5 Cup with time of 2:11.741 (89.35 m.p.h.) followed by Eric Powell of Orlando, Fla, in the No. 23 Tech Sport Racing Mazda MX-5 at 2.11.768 (89.33 m.p.h.) and Dean Copeland of Grasonville, Md., in the No. 07 Copeland Motorsports Mazda Global MX-5 at 2.11.784 (89.32 m.p.h.).

In the TCB category, Jake Pipal of Oakdale, Calif., recorded a 2.27.092 (80.03 m.p.h.) in the No. 6 Carbotech Brakes Honda Fit to take the top position. Completing the top-three in TCB Friday at VIR were Canaan O’Connell of Chandler, Ariz., in the No. 24 Tech Sport Racing Chevrolet Sonic at 2:27.139 (80.00 m.p.h.) and Travis Washay of Milford, Conn., in the No. 30 Indian Summer Racing MINI Cooper at 2:27.798 (79.64 m.p.h.).

The Touring Car 40-minute main event on Saturday scheduled for 1:05 p.m. EDT at VIR, while Sunday’s feature begins at 2:40 p.m. EDT.
