Bowmanville, Ont. — Adderly Fong, Frankie Montecalvo and Alec Udell were fastest at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in GT, GTA and GT Cup respectively, in the first practice session for their classes for the Pirelli World Challenge Grand Prix of Canada presented by Audi. The 30-minute session was held under clear, sunny 55-degree weather. In Sprint X, the driver pairing of Jorge De La Torre and Lars Viljoen led the way.
Early in the session, Andrew Davis, driving the No. 76 Calvert Dynamics Phoenix Performance Porsche 911 GT3R, went to the top of the charts with a best time of 1:16.811 followed by Michael Cooper, in the No. 8 Cadillac Racing Cadillac ATS-V.R., with a time of 1:16.830 and JD Davison, in the No. 33 AE Replay XD Nissan GT Academy Nissan GTR GT3, in third with a quick lap of 1:16.837 — with just two hundredths of a second covering the top three GT cars.
In GTA, Frankie Montecalvo, in the No. 66 DIME Racing Dime R&D Mercedes AMG SLS GT3, set the early pace with a lap time of 1:17.451, quickly eclipsed by Michael Schein, in the No. 16 Wright Motorsports Porsche GT3-R with a quick time of 1:17.047.
In GT Cup it was Alec Udell, in the No. 17 GMG Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, with the early quick lap at 1:21.783.
In SprintX, David Ostella and Dion Von Moltke, who are sharing No. 69 M1 Racing Global Precast/Sky Rider Equipment/Connolly Marble & Granite/Tampa Bay Jaw Surgery/Surgery Center America Audi R8 LMS Ultra, were out front early with a time of 1:17.322.
As the session continued to the 20-minute mark, Montecalvo posted the fastest overall time with a 1:16.582 to take position one away from Davis’ Porsche. Schein also improved his lap time down to 1:16.625.
It was then Barber winner Alvaro Parente, in the No. 9 K-PAX Racing McLaren 650S, who went fastest at the 22-minute mark of the session, powering to first with a lap of 1:16.532, then improving to a 1:16.453.
Andrew Palmer, in the No. 87 Bentley Team Absolute Bentley Continental GT3 then jumped to the top of the charts overall with a lap of 1:16.060, while Canadian Kyle Marcelli, in the No. 2, CRP Racing Audi R8, slotted into third with a time of 1:16.567 and then found some more time, drilling his best lap down to 1:16.136.
In SprintX, De La Torre and Viljoen, sharing the No. 4 De La Torre Racing Delgac, LLC/Gainesway/Angela Estate Aston Martin Vantage GT3, jumped to the front with a time of 1:16.955.
The times came down in GT Cup, with Udell improving his pace-setting lap time to 1:20.758 ahead of Championship rival Sloan Urry, in the No. 22 TruSpeed Autosport Security National Mortgage/Avasis Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, who had set a 1:21.609.
With the checkered flag out, Adderly Fong, in the No. 88 Bentley Team Absolute Bentley Continental GT3, jumped to first with a lap of 1:15.914 to lead teammate Palmer on the time sheets. Marcelli and Davison followed.
Montecalvo was fastest over Shein in GTA. In Sprint X, De La Torre and Viljoen’s time held to pace the class, while in GT Cup, Udell’s time also held for the quickest in class.
