MONTEREY – Sanity and insanity are separated by mere moments or thoughts.

The sane person interviews and admires the talent and skill of a 20-year-old racer from Sheffield, England, Ben Barnicoat. And admires his race car, a $500,000, 200-mph McLaren 650S. Although a season-long competitor in the Pirelli World Challenge GT series, he’s never driven the 2.238-mile Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca course until this weekend.

Most would think that the insanity is putting on a fire suit and helmet, then strapping yourself into the passenger seat and letting this 20-year-old kid haul your butt around the road course at racing speed.
