Bowmanville, Ontario – Olivier Beretta, of Monte Carlo, Bryan Heitkotter, of Fresno, Calif., and Colin Thompson, of Doylestown, Pa., recorded the fastest practice session laps in GT, GTA and GT Cup presented by MOMO
classes respectively at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, at the Remo Ferri Group Canadian Grand Prix presented by Replay XD. The 45-minute practice session was held under overcast skies with temperatures in the 50-55 degree range.
Johnny O’Connell, of Flowery Branch, GA in his Cadillac Racing, Cadillac ATS-VR GT3 topped the charts early in the session with a 1:16.085. The Cadillac Racing crew had a very busy two weeks having to build up the team’s test car to replace O’Connell’s primary chassis that suffered extensive damage when the car caught fire at Barber Motorsports Park.
The Bentleys of Chris Dyson, of Pleasant Valley, NY., driving the number 16, Breitling/Mobil 1, Team Dyson Racing, Bentley Continental GT3 followed O’Connell with a 1:16.623. With his teammate Butch Leitzinger, of Rebersburg, PA., just behind posting a 1:16.626 to take third fast in the early going.
Twenty minutes in, the red flag flew when the No. 81 GT Cup entry driven by Victor Gomez of San Juan, Puerto Rico, stopped the action when he went into the turn four tire wall in his Porsche of San Juan, DragonSpeed, Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car.
The session resumed with 10 minutes to go and almost immediately four-time CTMP winner Mike Skeen, of Charlotte, N.C. in the No. 2 DeVilbiss/Hawk Performance, CRP Racing Audi R8 LMS Ultra clicked off a 1:16.397 to take P4. On the next lap, SKeen posted a 1:16.003 to take P1.
On the next lap, Beretta driving the No. 61 Ferrari Ontario/Toronto/Alberta, R. Ferri Motorsport Ferrari GT3 Italia joined the hunt with a 1:16.059 putting him P2. Next time around Beretta broke the 1:15 barrier with a 1:15.966, a time that held on to take fast time of the session.
In the end it was Beretta with his 1:15.966, followed by Skeen’s 1:16.003, Leitzinger with a 1:16.005, O’Connell at 1:16.085 with JD Davidson, St. Petersburg, FL., rounding out the top five in his AE Replay XD, Nissan GT Academy, Nissan NISMO GT-R GT3 with a time of 1:16.136.
In GTA, it was a three-way battle between Frank Montecalvo, of Highlands, N.J, Heitkotter and Henrique Cisneros, of Miami, Fla. At the flag it was Heitkotter, in his No. 05 Nissan GT Academy, AE Replay XD, Nissan GT-R GT3 with a 1:16.260 followed by No. 66 of Montecalvo, in his Bayshore Racing, DragonSpeed, Mercedes-Benz AMG SLS GT3 posting a time of 1:16.625 and the No. 30 of Cisneros, driving the number 30, MOMO, NGT Motorsport, Ferrari 458 GT3 Italia with a 1:17.152.
In GT Cup presented by MOMO it was Thompson in the No. 11 Porsche of Bucks County/Penn Valley Constructors/Sherwin Williams Automotive Finishes/Austin Hatcher Foundation, Kelly-Moss Motorsports, Porsche 911 GT3 Cup with a time of 1:20.228. Following Thompson was Phil Fogg Jr. from Portland, OR., driving his No. 18 Zoro, Truspeed Autosport, Porsche 911 GT3 Cup with a 1:20.831. Rounding out the top three was the No. 02 of Sloan Urry Salt Lake City, UT., in his Engel & Volkers, TruSpeed Autosport, Porsche 911 GT3 Cup with a time of 1:20.877.
