Birmingham, AL: Rains Racing is preparing to make a 1,000 mile trip north to Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, near Toronto, Ontario. The event marks the team’s first entry into professional competition after having to forgo round one of the Championship at Circuit of the America’s in March. Now better prepared, and with two TC Class Volkswagens ready to do battle Rains Racing is excited to make the trip to Canada. The team’s goals for the weekend are to learn about the cars, the series, and the competition.
It has been a busy off-season for the team rebuilding a car, and putting the finishing touches on another have allowed the young team to learn the Volkswagen platform inside and out. Like other TC teams, the addition of the front splitter and rear wing has been a critical part of Rains Racing’s off-season testing and preparations. With further testing miles, shop and team infrastructure established, and other pieces of the puzzle now in place, the team looks forward to making its mark in the Pirelli World Challenge!
“Volkswagen really builds a solid car from the ground up, and we’ve been pleased with the way the cars have worked from day one,” says Team Manager, and Driver of the #44 Volkswagen GTI, Andrew Rains, “Most issues we’ve dealt with in testing have been a racing specific part, we have not seen much weakness in the OEM components. Overall I’ve been very impressed with the growth of the team and these Volkswagen racecars.” Rains and fellow driver Mikey Taylor will be in the seats of the #44 Golf GTI, and #26 Jetta GLI respectively, and look forward to the debut of this all-new program.
National Bank of Commerce, a Birmingham, AL based bank has been a critical part of the team’s success for several years now. Along with NBC, many other local, national, and internationally recognized firms are supporting the team’s effort. Local partners include PLK Investment Partners, Alabama Gearheads, Advanced Graphics, and State Traditions. “Many of our local supporters became part of our team last year, sponsoring an Aston Martin for Mikey Taylor in the PWC GTS Class, and then continuing on to partner with our Championship Winning club racing effort. We would not be where we are without their support!” stated Rains.
The number of team partners, and long-term strategic relationships that Rains Racing maintains is growing, and growing fast. With the network of former international karting standout, and professional driver, Mikey Taylor, as well as the network of Andrew Rains and others on the Rains Racing team, the young organization has been able to establish a great line-up of partners. The team embarked on a Fund-Raising campaign called Pirelli’s for Performance, where supporters purchase a set of Pirelli P-Zero racing slicks for the team, and in-return get to draw, write, and mark on the sidewalls of the tires they purchased. The campaign has bought several sets of tires for the team so far with no signs of slowing down, as it will continue for the remainder of the season!
Team Driver Mikey Taylor: “What a journey! Being part of such a young but enthusiastic team is like nothing I have experienced before. There has been a lot of learning for everyone, especially myself leading the work on the cars at the workshop and most of the engineering. Usually as a driver, all I am required to do is show up and drive, but in this case I have been part of helping build this program from the ground up. It will be the team’s first race in a professional series, which is always a huge step, so ultimately we are looking just to keep learning and build on what we already have. I am very excited to be back with the Volkswagen brand, and be joined by so many exciting partners! With all of that being said, the potential for growth with this team and our group of partners is immense. I look forward to what’s to come in the near future.”
The partners that Mikey refers to have been a massive part of the young team’s growth over the past few months.
Unitronic has become part of the team in a big way providing calibration and engineering support for the Volkswagen engines powering the cars.
A long-time supporter of Mikey Taylor’s, AfriGIS, the leader in global positioning on the continent of Africa, has come on board as a team partner for 2015, and the team is honored to represent such a great firm.
Milltek Sport Exhausts: a leading manufacturer of aftermarket exhaust systems, has recently become a Rains Racing partner, supplying the team with great power, sound, and throttle response!
Portable Shade will be providing high-quality tents, team-wear, and portable marketing displays for Rains Racing, keeping the team covered, and allowing Rains Racing to stand out in the paddock. RacingLine USA is supporting the team with performance parts, and has been a huge help in the off-season. They are a leading distributor of aftermarket VW parts, and a steadfast supporter of Rains Racing! Chin Motorsports is the leading track day provider in the US, and another amazing Rains Racing sponsor!
Supporting the team’s effort with high-performance products are OMP Racing, Motul, DXD Clutches, Black Forest Industries, and Atlantic Tape and Distributing.
A team is only as good as its members, and Rains Racing is proud to have such amazing group of sponsors, crew, and fans that are such a critical part to the team’s success. Rains Racing is looking forward to the journey to Canada and debuting in the Pirelli World Challenge!
