Birmingham, AL – After debuting in the Touring Car class at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park and Road America, Rains Racing is looking forward to working with Shea Racing for the final round of the Pirelli World Challenge season at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Shea Holbrook’s No. 67 TCA Honda Civic Si.
Rains Racing Driver, Andrew Rains, worked alongside the Honda Motorsports Alabama Team (Team HMA) at Mid Ohio, and had the privilege to join the Shea Racing crew at Miller Motorsports Park to foreshadow his debut in the TCA category.
“Working together with HMA and Shea Racing has been very instrumental in determining our plan for the upcoming race at Laguna and how we’ll move forward in the future with a Honda platform. With support from PLK Investment Partners, LLC. and National Bank of Commerce I’m certain we can deliver solid results,” said Andrew Rains.
The early part of the 2015 season saw Rains Racing, a Birmingham, Alabama based effort, with two Volkswagen race cars driven by Team Manager Andrew Rains and successful Pro Mikey Taylor, performing against a tough field in the TC class. After a successful start to the season new opportunities came to the table and Andrew began to move things in a direction for 2016. The early success of Rains Racing caught the attention of the Honda factory/Honda Performance Development (HPD) effort in the Pirelli World Challenge TC class. Rains Racing’s Birmingham, AL home base is only a 40-minute drive from Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, in Lincoln, AL, home of the Honda factory team in the Pirelli World Challenge TC class, Team HMA. The opportunity for Rains Racing partner with Honda Motorsports of Alabama is compelling for both entities, unifying Alabama’s only two professional racing teams, and providing Rains Racing with the factory level technical support needed to compete at this level.
Rains Racing’s relationship with Honda and Shea Racing is due in large part to Team HMA who has lead a decisive effort in conjunction with HPD to develop the Honda Accord Coupe into a formidable Touring Car class competitor in 2015. With the factory support on offer from Team HMA/HPD Rains Racing has chosen to move away from its Volkswagens to the new Honda Accord platform for 2016. It is important to recognize that this opportunity came about due in large part to partners and supporters of the Rains Racing Volkswagen program in 2015.
“Thank you to all of the team’s VW sponsors, fans, and supporters that have followed and enabled the efforts of Rains Racing thus far! The opportunity to work closely with Honda would not have been available without the support from the VW community to allow our young team to compete in 2015,” said Andrew Rains.
“The opportunity to pilot the Shea Racing Civic Si at Laguna Seca is such an honor. This is our initiation into the Honda racing family, and everyone with Rains Racing looks forward to building a prosperous and mutually beneficial relationship with Honda. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed spending time with Jeff, Nick, Erin, Shea, and the rest of the team the past two races, and I relish the chance to get behind the wheel at Laguna. We are blessed to have wonderful supporters behind us; a huge thanks to Phil Passafiume and Chris Nichols for their commitments to allow this opportunity to materialize at Laguna Seca! I’m excited to begin forging a relationship with Honda, Shea Racing, and HMA!” – Andrew Rains
