THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Alec Udell Racing has announced a partnership with Dark Horse Pros, online crowdfunding platform for action and extreme sports athletes, to fund the final two races of Alec’s 2015 Pirelli World Challenge Series GT Cup season in his No. 17 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car.
Alec made an impressive debut in the GT Cup class – the all-Porsche spec class competing at the top level in the Pirelli World Challenge series – with podium finishes in his first two races at Austin’s Circuit of The Americas.
However, the following St. Petersburg race weekend changed the direction of Alec’s season as a standing-start incident caused an errant Lamborghini to crash into Alec at the start/finish line, causing major damage to his Porsche. The damage and resulting funding deficiencies forced Alec to sit out two consecutive race weekends, dashing hopes of a championship run.
Undeterred, Udell and the team returned to competition at Barber Motorsports Park in top form. Alec quickly moved to the top of the field in his rebuilt Porsche, finishing second in both of the weekend’s races.
Most recently at Road America, Alec continued to show strength and composure with another double podium weekend, bringing home both a second and third place finish. Impressively, Udell has finished on the podium six times in his seven GT Cup class starts.
However, the cost to repair the extensive crash damage from St. Petersburg effectively depleted the young Texan’s budget for the 2015 race season. Partnering with Dark Horse Pros, Udell hopes to fund the balance of the season by utilizing a non-traditional funding model – crowdfunding – to leverage both race fans and sponsors.
Alec’s 30-day campaign (https://www.darkhorsepros.com/campaigns/130) is set to launch on Monday, August 3rd. With rewards ranging from Alec Udell Racing T-shirts, podium hats, and four of Alec’s 2015 MOMO GT Cup trophies, all the way up to VIP access and private track experiences during the upcoming Laguna Seca and Sonoma race weekends, Alec is putting it all on the line to make this crowdfunding effort a success.
“I’ve got a nervous excitement going on now,” remarked Alec. “I’m really pushing for this to happen because it’ll make the difference between finishing the season or not! We’ve proved we have a race winning platform with GMG, now we just the the finances to compete.”
